Ayeup gang, it's time to shift on my 106 GTi. I bought it a couple of months back as a last ditch "shite car" to try and stave off buying something new on the never never. Sadly it's just not doing it for me but in reality it's a decent enough motor.

It drives fine, goes bloody well and there's nowt particularly wrong with the mechanicals, everything works as it should, including the ABS. Mileage is 100500. I will include a video of the mileage ticking over to 100,000 miles to the lucky buyer. This is the 1.6 16v, about 125/130bhp or whatever. There's about 10 months MOT on it.

I've put a new clutch and crank seal etc on it about 500 miles ago, along with a thermostat and some £22 wiper blades. Turns out the clutch I took off was brand new and the release bearing was just wedging on the guide tube causing it to not disengage properly, but I had all the bits so I put them on.

The bodywork is not amazing, it's a ten footer I would say. It could do with a good polish but cleaning cars is not my thing, it wouldn't come up perfect mind. The passenger wing is a pattern replacement and is rotten from the inside, and the drivers rear quarter has a bit of a rattlecan effort repair or something. Included are a full set of china blue panels and bumpers if you want them, but I dropped the drivers door and it's fuct.

Inside it's pretty good nick (cloth). It smells like a Peugeot, the speedo under reads 5% but it does have proper remote central locking fitted by me to replace the wanky IR system these come with. The electric windows both work, and the PAS pump seems fine and doesn't sound at all like a dremel so it's got years left in it yet.

Like all of these by now it's got a pipercross cone filter on it, and I put a brand new (£380 RRP!!!) Magnex stainless exhaust and decat on. Being magnex it's not mega loud chav shit but you do know it's there. It does go a lot better compared to with the pattern copy OE exhaust and cat which are both included. It's not been lowered or owt, and the stock wheels are all there, as is a decent amount of tyre tread.

Bad points that spring to mind are that it could do with a new fire ring on the exhaust as it blows a bit, the rocker covers leak a bit (they all do that sirâ„¢), it probably needs a coolant flush and the headlights are totally wank. Oh and I wired the airbag light up to the check engine light cos it's on all the time otherwise. There probably are other bad bits.

I always take at least 10 days to post a V5 off so by that time you'll have had chance to catch the DVLA site when it's working and tax it yourself.

Price to a shiter is £640. It's not immediately available but will be quite soon.  SKANKS IN DA BANK is in Bolsover. Chesterfield. S44

Fucksticks, that's a bargain. These are worth mega coin to the fanboys and it doesn't sound like it needs much doing.

I really fancy one of these but not enough to let go of the Corsa.

I would ask 900 to take 800 from the general public, but the market for sub 1k hot hatches means I'd be dealing with all kinds of morons and it's just not worth the hassle if I can avoid it, so here we are. I'd also have to wash it and I don't want to.

Oooh. Is there any rear beam issues/ is it due any major belt changes or owt?

Posted

Theres absolutely no history with it so it's a gamble cambelt wise. IIRC these need doing at 60k so I reckon it's either already been done or it would have long gone by now. They aren't that bad of a job to do, I did one on an 8V in about 45 minutes. If you are in it for the long term I would probably change it.

The rear beam was changed before the last MOT, after which it has only done a few thousand miles. It does have an advisory for minor play in one side, but I can't make the bugger move and when questioned if he'd definitely written the correct side the tester said he always advises on at least one side of these even if they are fine because VOSA are dead funny about them and he's been pulled up on them in the past after he'd let someone off with a baggy one once and they'd sold the car straight after, and the tyre rubbed through on the inner arch and blew out leaving the new owner blocking two lanes of the motorway.

Take of that what you will, I reckon it's just starting to show play but worst case there's a place near notts that does a fully refurbished axle for £300 fitted but IMO you're definitely a few years off that yet.

Those are amazing cars, I will eternally envy whoever buys it !

It's one of those cars that really bring out the hooligan in you. I found it impossible to drive mine in a way that wouldn't pose a threat to my licence and/or life, which is why I ended up selling it.

Excellent hooning vehicle.

Imagine 205 - then MUCH MUCH faster.

PEZ STATION SHOT OF REPLACEMENT:

199.9 bhp or whatever of megaboost 20valves stuff, but it doesn't feel as quick as the 106. Then you look at the speedo and you're going 300mph and have emptied a full tank of super in 900 yards.

Buy my 106 please, I need to put petrol in my new car.

Funny how those Pugs were seen as chavvy wank not all that long ago, and now look quite tidy and appealing. Shame it would cost as much to insure as a Jag, otherwise I'd be tempted...

Well, an old mate is supposedly picking this up on saturday with designs of turning it into a track car, It's ideal for it really. so for now it's provisionally sold.

As for the airbag stuff, I was in a mega rush as I had about 20  minutes before the MOT and it was stuck outside the test center and needed to pass to get it out of their way, so rather than investigate I just took the clocks out and sipped one track and bridged a wire over.

It went this morning to my mate, laddo has got big plans for mega track slagging it, I told him to just put some tyres on it that aren't named after characters in a childrens story (Tigar, Mohawk, Hero) and drive it until he runs out of petrol or skill. I got to drive it back to his house and it deffo feels faster than a 200bhp seat ibiza, I'll miss that motor.
