Mine isn't silver either

It does have daft stick on tinted windies courtesy of a PO but they came in handy when in hottest France so I've left them on.

Welcome to the AS forum

never been a lover of red cars but when they are "red" they do look good.. is yours the 110 afn engine as well I take it?

No, I think it's the 90hp. You can tell by the chassis number in the boot or something. It's good on fuel but runs out of puff towing the caravan. Is it possible / easy to get more horses out of these?

very easy.. how much power depends on your budget.. my first route would be a set of 110 injectors, EGR blank and clean out the inlet manifold

mines is running around 145bhp and 300nm of torque ( standard is 110 bhp and 235nm IIRC )

so far mines has had...

chipped ecu  ( more-bhp.com )

EGR blank

inlet and turbo stripped off and cleaned ( what's your engine code? yours may have a variable vane turbo or a wastegate turbo depending on engine code )

next on the list is some 0.216 nozzles

130bhp turbo and inlet manifold

decat and custom S/S exhaust ( mainly as it will work out cheaper than a standard quattro system )

I Fitted a set of standard 110 nozzles to my mates 90bhp and it made a difference. its better on hills and he saw an improvement on mpg

Cheers. The 110 injectors a straight swap I assume and is it a fool's errand getting them from a scrappy? Is there a blanking plate available for the EGR? This one has done over 200k miles so I don't want to spend loads on it.

yes the 110 injectors are a straight swap only thing I would do is replace all the leak off pipes while you're in there

EGR blank £3

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR-VALVE-BLANKING-PLATE-AUDI-A4-1-9-2-0-2-5TDI-OE-EGR-040-/370935730813?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item565d7e127d

as for the 200k for a VAG ve tdi lump I wouldn't be overly concerned just keep it serviced.

I have seen them with 400k on them my old passat had just shy of 300k on it when I sold it 4 years ago.

I did think it had been scrapped last year but discovered the boy has put a private reg on it and its still in daily use..

I might have a set of 110 injectors in the garage. give me to the tail end of the w/end and ill get a look

Thanks again. It's been a good bus since I got it last year. No service history so I had the timing belt and water pump changed and a new thermostat as it was running cold. Gave it new discs on the front and pads all round and changed the oil this summer. This is my reliable modern so I'm happy to spend a wee bit on it and although I don't do a big mileage in it, when I do it's a long haul holiday. I put in halfords oil and then read somewhere it should be a specific type.

again if its the 90bhp it will be what's classed as the VE engine you should be safe with a decent oil. if it was the newer PD engine you need special oil or it would wreck the camshaft.

Ive not got a lot of faith in the PD engine there not as reliable and IMO not as good on fuel. plus they wont run on veg oil being a common rail with electronic injectors

I had the great idea of a modern reliable car.. I bought a 2002 vectra diesel estate that spent more time in bits than it did on the road.. I was never so happy with it than I was the day I sold it.. I then bought a 2003 E46 330d msport... I bought it with 87k on the clock... its in the drive at present with 92k and no engine!!

Most people laugh at the idea of a 14 year old motor with this mileage that only cost £650 being described as modern or reliable until they see what else I drive about in.

The wife has an 06 alfa 147 diesel with low miles and it's rough as hell compared to the audi.

my wifes got the 51 plate polo but if I turn my back for a second shes off with my Audi....

Down on the south coast the old A4 is common as muck.

It seems to be the car of choice with the Eastern Europeans and shiters like myself.post-9282-0-08773600-1412154026_thumb.jpg

I came out of McDonald's this morning after having a cardboard breakfast and found this one parked next to mine.

Hello and welcome.  I still can't figure out what the private plate was supposed to say.  Nobbies?  Noblesse?  I'm A Massive Fuckwit?  Anybody's guess.

Nicely de-twatted. Welcome. Threads like this make me glad the newbie thread disappeared. Also, it's pleasing that some good has come out of the dreadful FB page! I shall stop calling for its culling.

I think you'd change your mind if you met him in person...

Hi jbh, it seems these earlier A4s are proving themselves. Normally I avoid s/s exhausts, but interesting that they're a cheaper option. I fancy an old A6 (100 clone) with the quattro bits and a 5 pot dizzler, wondering how much ish you had to spend, since looking at exhaust prices has always put me off.

Running a TDi quattro on waste veg does appeal. If drum isn't interested in those 110 injectors, give me a shout!

Welcome along.

yea I loved my old Audi 100 I had years ago it was the one with the 5 pot engine I had. the sound of it was brilliant.

the system on the car has seen its day so ive been pricing around and the cheapest I could get a complete system is just shy of £400 where as sos motorsport in Falkirk has said they will build me a s/s system on the car for £300..

to me Im planning on keeping hold of the car so makes sense to stick a s/s system on it

what car are you running the now?

Posted

An autoshite spesh £240 Octavia while I save some pennies and debate whether to run the 80 or A6 day to day. Looks like the 80's winning, just bought it some Bilsteins. The A6 needs a pair of wings, but it's needlessly big and fast for daily transport. Did you take the engine out of the old A4?

Posted

yea we had 2 Octavias one was the 90bhp tdi the other was the 1.8t 4x4 with lpg conversion.. none of them found a permanent home with us sadly.. the 1.8t 4x4 was remapped and was a fun car but it just didint fit in perfectly

yip the engine from my old A4 is in the garage. Ive sold the pump off it but the rest is still there.

theres a boy on scottish vag selling a set of spax lowering springs for an 80

my A4 could really do with a set of front wings
