Sorry to hear things aren't going too well.

I was just  going to add that I can vouch for VA being a good custodian of a car. I lent him my Maestro a couple of years back and when he returned it it was in better nick than  it was when he took it.

The past two cars I have bought (a K10 Micra and a Ford Ka), one cost £100 and the other for free - I spent £7.50 for ehxaust and about £20 on exhaust bits and brake shoes from motor factor on the Ka and a £35 MOT.

Micra cost a bit more in paint (£14) and scrap yard bits (about £40) and then the original naff MOT (£35) and a genuine one (£40) with a retest (£20). You can't factor these in on the final price. The harsh first MOT missed bits that the second MOT spotted, and vice versa. You could be chasing your tail and end up skint with another monument on the front garden or you could get lucky.

The Xantia is going to be replacing Mike's Porsche in October and while it'll be available, there will be times I need transport when he needs it and times I need to go away for a few days when he'd then be without a car.  This means having just one car to share is not ideal.

 

Over the past few years I have very much been the statue rather than the pigeon and it's worn thinner than a Skoda Estelle rear seat covering now.
