Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Hi not being very mechanically minded I thought I would fit some new pads on the rear of my car for the mot as last year I got an advisory for the pads (I haven't used the car much since then maybe 1000 miles at most) So I got my rewind tool out (which I adapted with an angle grinder) and set to work changing the pads. But the problem is I can't get the piston in enough to get the new pads fitted and have now run out of ideas on what to do and the mot is pre booked very shortly. I've tried undoing the bleed screw to release any pressure but it's making no difference and I did undo the cap on the brake fluid reservoir lol. I wonder if anyone knows of a way around this but I'm not open to suggestions to burn because it's VAG lol. I'm blaming it on being a Lucas caliper lol
barefoot Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I'm guessing that you've already tried hammering a smaller piston over the original before coming on here wasting our time. Vince70, cms206, Junkman and 1 other 4
Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 I didn't know I could do that thanks, I was worried I may break something as I wasn't sure it was threaded cheers.
red5 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Handbrake cable overadjusted? Tried slacking it off? Vince70 and brickwall 2
Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 Cheers barefoot for your advice brickwall and saucedoctor 2
jonny69 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 What's going on now? Have you hammered a smaller brake caliper over the old one and it's worked? TH INTERNET IS ABOU TO IMPLODE Vince70, barefoot and cms206 3
Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 It's all back together now well one side is anyway, now I'm trying to get the bottom bolt in on the NSR caliper which is fun.So I thought I would stop for a cup of tea before throwing a gallon of petrol on the thing. I've come to the conclusion that all VAG are shite and pineappling is too good for them. saucedoctor 1
KruJoe Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 By the look of that disc, I'd pop it off and give it five mins with a flapper wheel in the drill, it'll come up like new. If you try to rub it off by driving and braking, you'll likely "glaze" the disc, the brakes'll be crap, and you'll have all sorts of fun* cleaning them up after that. Vince70 1
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Brake (dancing) Hammer makes sense to ich! ham.jpg This is the flag design which will replace the Union Jack if Scotland votes for independence.
Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 All done I've just got to clean up the discs now .I've got some air in the system now from undoing the bleed nipple on the osr.
KruJoe Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Good stuff. From memory 'Earl' aka RoadworkUK has an A4 just like this one.
Vince70 Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 It's a great car apart from the brakes don't work since I've fitted the new pads lolI think the system needs bleeding now, I'm hoping to get someone on the brake pedal tomorrow while I bleed the system.
