AMM - Ford Transit 2.5DI Camper conversion SOLD

That thought did go through my head. I am down to come in it.

But I need to check the box fits first plus get clutch etc (might as well change it at the sane time). Then have visions of not being able to get it back together.

If I can check it fits then I will do it. Bring a keg of beer as well.

Wcpgw.

I suppose the Saturday/Sunday would be the best time to have a crack - it could always be put back to 4 speed if problems ensued. I can understand the worry, but would definitely be prepared to help if you did go for it!

Engine backplate, starter, prop and mounting cradle will likely be different, as will the lever and possibly clutch cover, plate, cable maybe, and less likely, flywheel. Just a thought, going by some of Fords shenanigans.

Sounds a bit complicated to try and do in a field. Thanks AR

Just had a google and fair amount of stuff about props and flanges etc. Looks like there are a lot of options which means I am unlikely to have the right bits.

Been using this beast to move house. Swallows pretty much everything chucked at it.

Sadly been lashing it down so didn't get time to gets some pics.

Only fly in the ointment is that I might need to sell the van. Buying the house has meant money is tight. I need to spend a few quid on it to get it ready to use.

Going to have to do some sums tonight and think about its future. I think I should get my money back from it.

Decisions decisions.

I say sell the house and live in the van. It's a win-win: you get to keep the camper, and you'll have more spare cash for shite-based activities.

Posted

I will put that motion forward at the AMM meeting that has been called for this evening. Not sure the members will all be in favour mind

Posted

Surely you need a majority to actually arrive at a decision? ;-)

Posted

Well we counted the votes and it was 50/50 with Missus Moog having the casting vote. So sadly it needs to go.

To be fair we can do with the cash and it is unlikely to get worked on for a few months whilst the house is getting fixed*.

Once I get the V5 back I will be putting her up for sale :-(

*Other logical reasons apply

I bet I'm not the only one looking forward to the for sale thread auction.

23 and 25, please.

I am not sure it has the allure*  of a gold punto.

Better idea: Ten quid a ride up that dodgy green lane at Shitefest, you'd make a packet and NCPGW.

That little Transit was ace, stupidly low mileage and late registration madness too. It carries the SVM Seal of Approvalpost-4240-14316887039_thumb.jpg

Out of interest what do you reckon it is worth?*

I know what it cost plus what it owes me (about £1500) but is that wide of mark?

11months mot. Lovely drive.

*fuck off**

** to those about to say £10 a ticket etc

Now's the time to sell, it's a council estate cheap holiday fishing quad transport WONDERBUS. Gumtree, £1595.

Which means as soon as I get back from holiday I will give it a clean and stick it up for sale :-)

Been sitting a bit forlornly waiting for the paper

Due to buying a house, I need to sell my camper conversion unless I want to leave the comfort of bricks and mortar and live a single life based on a diet of wotsits (yes the missus has told me)

It is a ford transit chassis with a custom body on the back meaning that parts are easy to get and no scary DMF,DPF, EMF or Carter USMs fitted. (Mk3 - Transit 2.5Di - Twin axle 4 sp manual)

I bought it as a minibus due to the size of the interior space and also the fact that the rear is fibreglass rather than metal which will avoid the tin worm that can affect lesser beasts.

It has an MOT to 10/03/2016 with the only advisories - NSR & OSR Anti Roll bar has slight play.

For MOT it had new headlights, new front discs and pads, rear brakes stripped cleaned and rebuilt & two new tyres.  It has also had a new battery in the last 3 months which means it starts up straight away.

Only 47K on the clock and this is believed to be genuine, it has been very well looked after as a PSV having to meeting the required tests for a commercial vehicle.

The 2.5DI is one of the best engines to have and pulls the van along well whilst sipping at the compressed dinosaurs.

I stripped out the seats (aside from two passenger ones), fitted bed boxes, a basic sink/cooker unit and a table.  All of these can be removed pretty quickly to turn the van back into a massive load lugger. I moved house with it and it swallowed pretty much anything you threw at it

It has huge windows making it light airy, which if you have interesting neighbours you can pretend is a flat screen TV.

Benefits from a cool electric folding front door, which you can make star trek noises and pretend you have an urgent planetary mission to attend to.

The rear of the van you can stand up in (I think the height is over 6ft) and the width is about 6ft (meaning you can sleep comfortably, and so can all your friends!)

It has got ceiling cabin lights already fitted and wired up to switches on the drivers console. It has a stereo fitted with rear mounted speakers.

The brucie bonus is a rear cabin heater that is fed from the engine coolant and so will let the back become very nice and toasty. It has included as a flush fitted feature in the NSR bed box for all your changing rooms styling needs.

I have had the V5 amended so that it is now classed as a Motor Caravan so you can legally do 70 mph on the motorway and also can get camper insurance.

The few issues are;

·         The conversion may want changing to your desires. We went for a basic version with no electrics or underslung tank. The beauty is that it will be straightforward to do

·         It needs rear cushions for the bed boxes.

·         The rear doors are starting to get some surface rust and the doors themselves need some fettling. My plan was to remove and replace them with wood or fibreglass ones.

·         The drivers and rear door don’t have a key for them. I just have an ignition key

·         The paint isn’t great, it is quite porous and so dirt has left marks. It could do with a T cut or better a rustoleum paint job.

·         Being a 4 speed box it sits comfortably at 50 on the motorway but ideally could do with a 5 speed being fitted. You’re in luck as I will throw in a 5 speed gearbox!

Overall a great base for a camper that you can customise to your heart’s content.

Location is Accrington, Lancs.

Price is £2000 but can do a reasonable shiters discount

So far I have had the following

"do you have another seat to go beside the drivers seat, is it possible to put one there? I have a kid and need her beside me when driving. also what weight is the van"

"I wonder if you would take £1250 for van I know its not what you are asking but its all it is worth"

A couple of sensible offers that I have replied to and not heard anything else from.

I wish I had both the money and the nuts.
