not sure if I had a deprived childhood or not. My dad always had new cars and they were replaced every 2 or three years. I was a child of the 50s and 60s . I remember him having the first mk2 zephyr in town (1956) and that replaced a 55 velox. zephyrs were the order till 1963. then a 65 super minx. his last car was a 90 corona liftback with an Amon handling package (NZ only).the 56 zephyr was a bright green colour and it was soon two-toned with the lower half beneath the chrome strip done in bright PINK...thats style ...just imagine that beng done today :D

We hadRYJ992- a dark green Austin 1100 Mk1JSP661F- an identical Austin 1100 except it was MkII and automaticNSC780M- Bronze Vauxhall VivaVFG199L- Diarrhoea coloured FIAT 128LTS720P- Datsun 100A 2 doorNMS29T- Datsun 120A FII Coupé. This was recalled for free subframe repairs days AFTER we sold it for spares. YSN209T- Viva Estate, I passed my test in it. Uninsured and holes in the wings you could walk through, but I passed.NRS166P- Volvo 244DL. Drove like no other Volvo I've experiencedThat was pretty much it for my mother driving. She had a couple of cars after that but she never really managed to drive them. With the possible exception of the Volvo and the Viva Estate, every one of those was a spit and baler twine deathtrap. My dad didn't learn to drive until 1986. There has been a strong Volvo theme throughoutNRS166P- the Volvo that he gave to my mum in a brief flurry of post-divorce civility. normal service was resumed soon afterA135SES- Volvo 240DLD953DSC- Volvo 240GL 2.3 ftwN***EBW- Volvo 940 2.4TD Estate The engine makes some incredibly alarming noises and the oil light takes an age to go out but it's been like that for 180000 miles so far.

The first family car I can remember was a Triumph 200 Estate. This was replaced by a rusting but probably not that old Datsun 180B Estate? Never sure on the J-codes. Anyway, it had a multitude of sticky tape keeping the bonnet/wing edges in place and is probably the only one I was embarassed about as a child.

There were some company cars a bit later, then his first SD1, a 3500SE which he finally managed to replace with a Viteese which he really liked and played with loads. His last car unfortunatly and I only got to drive it once.

My mum didn't learn until very late and I remember her having lessons. Here's a photo of the first car she had.

OK, the complete list of my dad's cars is as follows:1974 Renault 6 - they sold this when I was 18 months old so I have no memory of it1975 Marina 1.8 DL estate - I vaguely remember this but can't recall the number plate.YMC35T - blue Renault 6 TL A25RRO - brick red Astra 1.6L estateE338YNC - metallic blue Renault 21 Savanna GTSH966GVU - red Montego DLX estateDuring this period my mum had:MUR???L - orange Mini Clubman estateCBB648V - pale blue Fiesta 950LE827UNF - red Peugeot 205 GLD, the car I learned to drive in aged 11.Then we moved to France, and my dad had:437ABN38 - BRG Montego GTD estate8378WM38 - metallic green Volvo 240 estate, which was the car they had when I was learning to drive properly (on the road) so I have quite fond memories of it. He still had it when I left home, although he's since had a Focus which has now been passed on to my brother and replaced with a C4 HDI. The only car my mum had after moving to France was a 1992 Peugeot 205 Green (a bit like the Lacoste we got over here, with cool green seatbelts and a clever glass sunroof that slid back manually but then had a vacuum sealing mechanism that hissed into place when you shut it). And we had a 1978 Citroën LNA (602cc) which had belonged to my dad's mum before she died and which we kept at the holiday house as a runabout.

From 1970 until 1988 my dad used to sell cars from home, can you imagine a better environment for a car mad kid? Better still, he liked the more oddball, especially foreign margues - I think he probably only sold about one Ford in the whole period. Some of the many highlights (I did a thread on this a while back with some photos) included:Subaru GL saloon 1978Various Daf 33,44FSP Polonez 1980 (brown, only 2 years old - I loved it) Took him ages to flog it, mindLancia Fulvia Zagato 1971Loads of Renaults including a lovely 1977 12TS & 1981 Fuego GTXSuzuki SC100 Whizzkid 1980Peugeot 304 Coupe 1973Lancia 2000HF 1973Fiat 128 3pFiat 850 Coupe 1972Datsun 240K Skyline Coupe 1980 (yellow with vinyl roof - loved this one)Numerous Allegros - he seemed to like these for some reasonCitroen GS Special 1979 in a wonderful lemon yellow colourThe anticipation when he brought something new home was quite something!

My dad had a Ford Pop and A35 then a pretty ropey 1100 that I was brought home from the hospital in as a wee bairn but after that we didn’t have a car until I was 13 in 1989. Before that we used to borrow my grandad’s cars and early holidays were spent tootling around in this Minor which I could stand up in the middle of at that tender age. Seatbelts? What seatbelts?!

After that there was an M-reg Mk3 Cortina in the back of which I was frequently car sick. It was replaced by a beige 1982 Lada which my dad hated with a passion but I thought it was pretty cool because it was just like a 60s car. My other grandad had Cortinas and then bought a Mk1 Cavalier that he had for 20 years or more.

My dad used to commute on Vespas and then gradually worked his way up to a Honda CB400N via an MZ. Some money left over from a house move enabled dad to buy this little beauty. Whilst I was the laughing stock of the school it did get me interested in old cars and is the reason I am what I am today!!! I remember this car very fondly.

Hmm. My mum's Lada 1200 estate, Riva 1200L saloon, and Samara 1300 Select 3dr got me a fair bit of stick at school. I made sure her next car was not a Lada when I got to driving age...a Rover Metro. Good little motor. Now replaced with a Honda Logo CVT. That's nearly 30 years' worth of car ownership for her in that short list.My dad, on the other hand, has had company cars for most of his working life and therefore has a much bigger list. Private motors have been limited to Mini, Sunbeam Imp Sport, Austin 1300GT and Mk2 Cortina Auto Estate between 1964-ish and 1978. Then the Honda Accord in my signature below between 2003 and about 4 months ago.In between the company chod has been at least 8 Marina 1.3s (including a facelift model), Ital 1.3L, Chrysler Avenger estate, Princess 1.7L, two Sierra 1.6Ls ('83 and '86), '86 Sierra 1.8GL, '88 Mk2 Cav 1.8GLi, '90 Mk3 Cav 1.8GL auto, '95 405GTX auto estate, '91 Sierra 2.0LX, '93 405GRDT estate '97 306GLX, '99 Vectra 1.8LS auto estate. And, most recently, a Nissan Cashcow 2.0CVT topspec jobber which seems to push his buttons massively, although it don't do much for me.
