AWD is Dudley so you can't blame Warwickshire for that one :-D

  • Of late I have experienced a strange attraction to running one of these simply for the potential daily fuel cost of £5 rather than £10 and also having to buy one less part worn every donut swap

The only disadvantage I note is that if I piloted it through an economically deprived council built housing project and had the unfortunate luck to come towards a zebra crossing simultaneous to a group of perpetually angry/ jeering teens then it could be tricky due to the obvious lack of wheel , not that I care for others views of course in most circumstances but a defenceless reliant...

Friend of mine up t'road has one.   Its all he has ever driven and he is nearly 80.   Chavs from the estate keep tipping it up in his driveway.  I told him to cable tie barbed wire around the bodywork but you are right its a big drawback being different.....

Best to turn the crownwheel round so you've the single wheel at the back, shirely? Not so sure about rear wheel steer, tho'. Hmm.

With the fiesta lights front and back do they share anything else from random parts bins?

Escort van rear lights, I think.

EDIT: Yep.

Later ones used Corsa B units up front.  Classy.

Best vehicle i had for cost of running, parts, tax cost and economy. 70ish mpg average. Never had less than 60 mpg when tanking it too. Embarrassed local chav corsas and Saxos off the lights. Needed a new alternator on mine,£35 quid fitted for a recon unit with new belt and the chap replaced 2 springs in drivers seat too. I had electronic ignition, electronic fuel pump and a few small engine mods done. Never got stuck in the snow and took my Mrs to work in bad weather when the vectra wouldn't move off the drive due to snow. As for top speed,i lost my bottle on the a610 when the speedo was nudging 110 so true speed of 95ish.

You couldn't till last year but you can now Richard. If you passed before 2002 you can regardless though

Wasn't some guy stopped by plod on the M20 doing 120mph ages ago (pre-internetwebhttp)? Think it had done 200,000 miles and the rest. They even had the cheek to charge him to have their calibrated speedo checked. That really was mean.

Yes. The driver was a bloke called Alex Salmond IIRC. It tipped him over the edge and he swore revenge.

"MWAHAHAHAAAAAA............. The world is MINE.... MINE I tell you...."

Used to work at a motorcycle/reliant  dealers.

Boss used to race some sort of reliant engined car and used to put his very tuned engines in their regal van.

It was frighteningly fast, left many a mini, anglia etc driver in distance on old colchester to harwich road.

Cant think of any standard old style mini that would out run an 850 reliant. The yellow top engines had less bhp (37 to 40 standard) due to compression ratio and the yellow tops had a different rear axle. If i recall though, the heads cant be skimmed so are bollocks if the head gasket shits out
