I think I like the dark green more than the maroon, sorry* to anyone that offends.  Super work on eliminating the brown stuff too.

Painted the drivers door, passengers wing, bonnet and passengers rear arch.

Almost ready for the road again.

Nice work! Seeing this in camo explains why the french have a reputation for less than formidable war time efforts

Cheers!

Slightly off topic but not sure I've mentioned this before.

I pulled into Aldi and this guy older guy was looking at the car, I then went into the shop and was looking at the rolls and this guy says "Is that ex forces", he had a massive lisp though so it sounded more like "is that ex forhththrssszzzzph" I couldn't understand what he said so I just said yes, and when we got out of the shop my mate asked why I said yes and explained what he said.

Sometimes it's just easier to agree with people. I really can't be arsed getting into conversation or correcting stupid people sometimes!

I've had someone ask if my Mercury was a Cadillac before. There's a perfectly legible badge on it, so if your not up on yank cars that could well be a good clue. So I just said yes, and then left!

And believe it or not someone stopped me in the petrol station once and asked if my Capri was an old Triumph! And I thought a Capri would be very obvious what it was! So again I just said yes.

It's really not worth the time and effort sometimes.

Not too much to report, I've been enjoying the superb mpg which is even better now that the thermostat is fixed and oil has been changed.

Only slight issue is the battery goes flat every couple of days, I'll need to change the alternator but I need to fix the 340 first, so I've been carrying a spare charged battery around.

It's possible to bump start it if you get it right the first time, but the game's a bogey if the battery doesn't have enough juice to heat the glow plugs.

What mpg you getting out it? I'm nearly through the first tank in the olop-hoping for 50..

Posted

Around 65mpg...

It really is the perfect car, extremely good on fuel, comfy, looks cool and is very rare, the only minus point is the slowness but that doesn't really bother me.

The N/A lump in the olop is not as efficient as a TDi, but it seems a decent lump TBH.tiny little 45L tank too-so wont take long to find out what it does to the gallon.

65mpg is bloody good-cheaper than walking!

it was always ridiculously good on fuel. I genuinely thought the gauge was broken and was tapping the dash often, but no.

Chuffing nora that's good MPG, and they say we've made progress. I'd like to see a modern dizzler equivalent do that kind of mpg without shitting its self

Is that on a rolling road with no wind resistance?

No, that's with a boot full of baguettes and a crosswind.

I've ordered a new alternator from misterauto, £36! decent.

It was raining reasonably heavily as I recall, at this point I had the gold one and he had this one, so perhaps it was camouflaged in a background of shrubbery, I'm not sure.

Before and after work I'm not in the mood to notice stuff.
