Shite 'rockets in value'

Caveat: it's from the Daily Mail.

http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/cars/article-2660596/Classic-car-owners-lose-thousands-insurance-claims-old-cars-soar-value.html?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

It may not be surprising that luxury cars such as Porsches, Bugattis and Bentleys from the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties now fetch up to eight times more than they did in 2004.

But other vehicles, such as early VW Golfs, Toyota MR2s, Ford Fiestas and Ford Sierras, are also soaring in value. In many cases, that old car you bought for a few thousand pounds some years ago could now be worth a small fortune.

A Ford Escort Mk3 dating back to the early Eighties would have sold for £3,500 in 2004. Today, it would typically fetch £8,000. An immaculate model with only a few miles on the clock could go for £26,000.

So, go out and get spending people! We're IN THE MONEY!1!!!11!

Where do I have to advertise my MR2 so that I can stick a zero on the price?  Because if I get even a daft offer on that kind of price, I'll take it!

The daily mail. I might have known.

If it had it's way anybody not right wing - thinking like itself would be put in the stocks.

For a moment I thought Quentin Willson was at it again.

I must go and get me one of those Sixties, Seventies, or Eighties Bugattis they are writing about.

I like the ones with vinyl roofs and 8 track stereos. Proper stuff. The 80s ones with injection and that dodgy styling never did it for me.

Our neighbours had a MK4 Escort about 15 years ago and when the arse fell out of it they scrapped it.

Fools!

if only they knew that, with current projections from the Daily Mail it'll be worth AN BILLIONTY Pounds by Tuesday next.

Shite has rocketed in value, but not by anything like what they say. Blows my mind to see nice but not great mk5 cortinas fetching three grand these days.

I bought a mint 2.3 Ghia mk5 back in 2006-7 for £400. Even Sierras which were fifty quidders a couple of years ago all seem to fetch well north of a grand now.

I sold a realy nice Mk1 Cortina GT for £1700 in 2008 ish. Good luck finding one under 5 grand now.

My mum told me to get rid of all my shite cars and invest in property 7 or 8 years ago. I did and lost a fortune in the property crash. If id kept my shite instead i'd have been well up now.

Cheers mum.

To say something in favour of the Daily Fail, they explicitly write about 'value'.

Please note that the value of a good is only very indirectly linked to the monetary amount realisable in it's sale.

Prices do reflect values to a certain degree (less and less as times turn ever shittier), but depend on either supply and demand,

or, when it comes to collectables, what a buyer is willing to pay at the time of the sale.

The value is completely irrespective of this. It is a theoretical - well - value, comprising ideological value, cost of replacement,

repair, cost of restoration, etc. The cost of preserving something of historical and/or cultural importance (which every old car is),

can vastly outstrip it's price.

Hence the value agreed with the organised crime called insurance is not the price a car would yield when being sold.

I think this journo must have clicked on CAr and Classic  "for sale" section or our own "Bargains" section and misread the context.

I think my XM is worth £6000 as its an old citroen.

If I can get a story into the fail next week, then sell it the week after linking to the article and my nans house which must be worth £400k I'll clean up!

For christ's sake, when is the value of SD1's going to skyrocket?

In particular, VDP EFI's in black with caramel leather.

my shite is priceless... well to me anyway, what a joke that is to read, its true that throwaway cars back in the day like tinas, escorts and sierras are going up in value but those figures quoted there are just optimistic to say the least

ive just found a 20k mk3 escort (fair enough its been up at that price for an age and a half and not sold)
