I've just watched the YouTube clip about George Turnbbull, which I thought very interesting. I've been to Korea and their attitude to everything seems to be far more collective (in a non-socialist way) than ours was. I suppose the effects of a devastating war in the 1950s would make them feel their backs were against the wall a little-hence  their desire to "get it right". The comments about the shut gaps was indicative of B.L.'s failings in the 1970s, when the joke was that there were 2 things on earth visible from the moon: one was the Great Wall of China, the other being the door shut gaps on a Range Rover!

And the treatment of the Koreans by the Japanese, when it was a Japanese colony, gave the Koreans a certain incentive to succeed by direct competition (see also China).

winning the British Grand Prix at Silverstone in the massive 4.5litre Ferrari. Said to be doing about 140mph in this photo.

It was the first time Alfa Romeo had been beaten since the start of Formula 1 (not counting the Indy 500 which was included as a round!)

He did almost the same 3 years later winning against the Mercedes steamliners who struggled with the lines of the corners.

North east Scotland tour, 1978, a Sunday service.

'Cool rims Ma'am'.

(HRH checking them out in the last pic).

Appears to be Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, piloting the carbed E12 528 in the first pic, with Princes 2 and 3 in the back.

'Go on, do a donut mister'.
