A82 Comes highly recommended from me, pretty much all of the highlands as above is nice.

Watch out for the bus tours this time of year on the a82. .

And the caravans/campers/tourists in general. Mind you, there's a good reason it's like that - sometimes it's worth following the crowd!

Just back from a camping trip to Skye in the 944 at the weekend. It was brilliant weather and the car was perfect for the roads. Skyes roads are excellent, as is the A889/A86 which takes you from the A9 over towards Skye. The A9 is too busy to be fun these days IMO-I have had some blasts up there in the past though...

Petrol in Broadford at the South end of Skye wasn't too bad-132.9 or thereabouts. Good for that far north. The Porsche averaged 32mpg, I nearly fainted when I saw it had done that well with two folk and tons of camping gear and my err, enthusiastic, driving.

We came back down the A82 and through Glencoe-a must do. The traffics can be seen out and about occasionally though so try and keep the head a bit at least...

For Gods sake don't forget some Avon Skin So Soft for the Midgerigars or you'll be stripped to the bone in seconds...

Coming from the South I'd do the A701 from Moffat up to Edinburgh-I love this road especially the climb out of Moffat. I'll stick the kettle on and break out the Nice Creams if you're near Edinburgh...

Somebody sent me this link tonight, you might get some ideas in there http://matadornetwork.com/trips/19-epic-road-trips-scotland/

Don't go on any of their routes without checking their info though. Number 4, Crail to Elie, is a dreadful road and a massive chore to drive. It's winding roads with few opportunities to overtake the dawdlers, passing through several villages and with random 40 and 50 speed limits all over the place. The Anstruther Fish Bar is adequate at best too, strictly for posh twats who don't know what a fish supper is meant to taste like.

Apart from that you might find something useful though, it does include the A93 route that I suggested earlier.

If you're heading up the east coast to Aberdeen and in no rush i recommend you don't go up the main A90 via Dundee, instead head north from Perth to Braemar then follow the river Dee to Aberdeen via Balmoral, Banchory, etc.

Also on the west coast the road between Ullapool and Gairloch is a hooners paradise.
Mellon Udrigle and Red Point both amazing beaches well worth stopping off at to chomp a macaroni pie while watching sheep grazing on seaweed on the sand.

(Edited, A90 not A93!)

The A90 is the direct Dundee - Aberdeen route, the A93 is Perth - Deeside -Aberdeen. The A90 has quite a few cameras on it, but the views of the North Sea around Stonehaven are about the only compensation. And Strathcathro services - proper old school.

There's also the A92 route, from the river end of Kingsway, up the Angus coast. Came back that way after my last trip to Aberdeen, and it's okay: quite scenic but slow. The A92 that is, not Aberdeen!

Quite like Aberdeen too; all the granite gives it an odd look. Granite everywhere! Watch out for slippy pavements if it's been raining. Found out the hard way...

Not been for ages but I love the B827 from Braco to Comrie, lovely scenery and a great driving road. As everyone else has said there are loads of gems all over

Aye Len, I told him he could do a lot worse than pay you a visit up there.
