Booked in for an MOT on the 26th, so will see what the damage is.

Welderizing obv but how much!??? Hopefully just the sills that I can see.

May then be looking at parting it on.

I wondered that, but my Mav failed on sills. Proximity to seatbelt mount?

^^^ What he says, proximity to rear seat belt mount and rear body tub to chassis mounting points.

For some perverse reason I quite like the idea of a Terios. I'll probably hate one, but....

I reckon a Terios would be good fun. Drove one very briefly and it was quite bouncy and a bit of a giggle.

Maverick is OK, just not in love with it. Its fun. Sort of.

Just something I cant put my finger on though.

Want 4WD, but also want something small.

SJs are wicked, get one of those

SJs are expensive, go on the game and earn enough to get one of those - if you sell your arse by the kilo you will have enough by Easter

TBH I've no idea what they go for now. Guess they are probably getting a bit scarce

My mate downsized from a Ford Ranger to a Terios- he absolutely loves it. high 30s mpg and cheap as chips to buy. just watch for the rot under the back seats though, they all go there.

not a serious off road tool but good enough for OMGSNOCHAOS

I've noticed Terioseseses seem over-valued for what they are, and popular with rural octogenarians.

If you're mostly on the road, you can't beat an early RAV4, must be SWB. They are faster, handle better, and are more powerful than the Golf GTI's of the time. (Ok, not saying much.)

I recently found this one for Pops_KJ, and he loves it too, just like the one he bought new in '95:

It's a right hoot, I tell thee.

Well, its in for its MOT and Im waiting by the phone with baited breath for the "damage" report.

Damn thing obviously knew it was going for an MOT as it decided to stop autoparking the wipers yesterday. A bit of fiddling and they seem to be working again, but who knows how long for....

Posted

For a Japanese motor, the switchgear is bloody awful on these. Quite often in mine I'd turn the wipers off and they'd keep going...

I also find the early RAV4 quite appealing. Would like to try one out off-road but I suspect the lack of a low-ratio gearbox is a pain in the arse.

If the Mav fails catastrophically then I'll revert back to the MicraShed for a while.

Currently on my radar as well as a Mk1 Bingo is the Xsara VTS Coop which seem to be in "shite VFM" territory as they are not a Saxo. Early Rav looks nice but not sure if I can be faffed with another fourbefour given the horrendous fuel consumption of the Mav.

£20 to go to Carnforth and back - hell, that'll last me 2 weeks in the MicraShed.

Right well the verdict is:

Inner & Outer rear OS sill welderizing

Wheel bearing.

Not had a price for the work yet though.

Posted

Wheel bearing is so simple even I can do it. Sills - MOT patching will be shite, but does that matter if you want to punt it on?

Posted

Work has been monumentally busy to the point that I finally got my arse round to see Tony today.

Anyway £250 should see me with a new MOT and for that price I cant really complain I suppose.

So MOT then what? Sell on as it is, or try and swap it for a PTW? I quite fancy something of this ilk:

$_57.JPG

Or similar in type. Swapz has been "interesting" to say the least. But hopefully with a fresh MOT it will make the Mav a more appealing sale / swap item for something fun. And NO cav, I dont want a yellow Daihatsu.

Well it magically turned up in my Mother in Laws driveway today. I have no idea how much its going to cost yet for the MOT but the repairs actually look quite good and there are all brand new nyloc nuts and bolts holding the sidesteps on now (which I'll be billed for).
