Sunday Spannering

Well done chaps,  I thought how nice it would have been to be with you while I tinkered with the Cradley Heath Heavy Industys Special earlier. I've welded the chain tensioner that isn't used for tensioning back on and adjusted the front cog and it now works for at least 100yds again,  more tinkering is required to keep the chain on a bit longer.

I'm sorry the CHHI special is being such an arse! It used to be a bit more reliable than that. I wonder if the long period of disuse did it no favours, the long chain was only made up of old, used chains. I wonder if they've got too stiff and rusty now? It used to be fairly reliable when I used it to commute to Dudley from Cradley, about 5 or so miles each way including some stiff inclines. The rather Heath Robinson chain drive was one of its more reliable features, believe it or not!

Keep the faith, I'll pop over one day if you fancy?

Don't we have a Discovery to finish too...?  ;)

The Disco is fixed thanks to you guys and off at a music festival this weekend with Ms C.  I've not welded it yet and it's only got half an exhaust but it's running ok.  I collected a new to me 200tdi centre box on Friday so I can sort the exhaust one evening this week.

I did wonder about finding some newer chain for the monster,  there might be something useful in the electric vehicle scrap pile at work.

Speaking of the EV scrap pile would anyone be interested in building a soapbox racer?  Theres a pile of good useful stuff there we could have for next to nowt if we can find some space to work.  An electric Tricycle would use up the remaining bits nicely.  We'll need to act fairly quickly though as it's all getting weighed in soon (and I won't be working there much longer).

You're always welcome to pop by Andy (and the rest of you),  just drop me a line.

A project? Build an electric tricycle! Using scrap from a pile? At my age? DING DONG!

I think this week is fairly quiet work wise (anyone need a hand?) so the world is my lobster.

I'm off work today but back in Tues - Fri 9-5 then off camping for a bit.

Evenings are nice and long though.  The stuff is up at the unit which would be ace if it had power.

I think we should build an Autoshite soapbox.  Definitely.

I'm been lazy and non-Autoshitey recently so not put up pictures of the Dyane resurrection, till now.

By the way, were still in need of a venue for the next one. Any takers (i.e do you need a number of middle aged blokes to come round, drink your tea and possibly accidentally fix things?)

Me, hopefully (as long as my bloody job don't expect to send me back to France in the next few days) I am due to pick up a 827 heap tomorrow (as lomg as Insurance doesn't mess things up) apparently I am being taken there in an aging Discovery.

If its within the next few days or weekend, please include me.

I would be happy to host the next one, would be in Erdington, Birmingham. I have a poorly Suzuki SC100 which won't start. I think it's ignition related but not 100% sure.

Heidel, you're it! Name a date and time and we're on. sc100 you say? Mmmmm. IIRC they have a ballasted coil and I have a feeling that the resistor pack failed on mine causing lack of progress. Fired the resistor and ancient coil, fitted a unballasted coil and whizing resumed.

I'm ok with any date apart from the 31st of this month due to the Cholmondeley meet.

I have actually fitted an electronic dizzy to it along with a new coil, I had a spare dizzy converted by these guys http://www.h-h-ignitionsolutions.co.uk/. It did run but something was not quite right with it and now it fails to start full stop. I'm pretty sure it is something I cocked up though. I have also had the timing belt off when I had to replace the water pump. I am sure someone that actually knows how to use a timing light (not me) will be able to sort it out lol.

First weekend of September is OK for me but not the second, as offspring is away to music college in Manchester.

Just realised that a date has not been set for this. How about 21-09-14?

Probably good for me as well.

Erdington, B23. I will PM the address to everyone that has said they are up for it so far.

Not 100% sure I can make it yet, but surely worth it just so I can experience the delights of Erdington for the first time in many years! Therefore, please drop the PM and I'll see what I can do.

I may put my name down as a 'host', for one of these get togethers.

Let me tidy the garage, and we can go from there :)

Not sure how many of you lot are in the 'CH' area.

Likewise, I'm not certain but am hoping to be at the Cosford meet that weekend so only a short hop away. If you could pm me your address please I will hopefully come along.

EDIT - Crossed post there. I'm not too far (70 miles) from Chester so might be up for that too!

Holy thread revival Batman. It's been a decade but would anyone be up for doing Spannering Sundays again? I can still offer up my mother's driveway located in Erdington B23. I do have a slightly ulterior motive as I am hoping having other people around will force me to pull my finger out and get cracking on with the Corrado as I really do want to drive it again ASAP.

As I said to you at the meet I’m all for this, and not far away as you know. Just drop us a text when it’s going on and I’ll pop round
