My wife learned to drive in a Unimog. 300 series I have a picture somewheres.

Did you marry my sister?

This is the one we learned to drive in

I had an L200. It suffered from chassis rot too, in fact I wouldn't have been surprised if it had jettisoned the rear tub while bouncing about off road.

The Nissan 4x4 forums seem to be full of this stuff. I never knew about the Navara, but the Patrol has had problems going back a good while.

Well, I never knew that the chassis was that shit. I knew that navaras were shit obviously, but never realised they made them out of actual cheese.

I best stock up on dairylea to repair it next week.

I had no idea steel of such low grade existed.

Dimension-wise the frame should be more than up to it.

The idea that it was built for  3000kg braked is a laugh.

People are also complaining about body cracks too:

Land Rover reinforced the chassis fro crew-cabs that would have heavy stuff on the back like cherry pickers or a tow crane etc. There were cases of one coachbuilder whose cherry pickers snapped in the same place. They had removed the extra steel to meet a weight requirement.

more crewcab probs

yup, and there. L200's did take a little more punishment though. Great Wall Sailors suddenly looked terrific value...

Overloaded. Nah. Local farmer, on the way to market with a few cows in tow that's all !!!!

A trailer of cattle is VERY heavy.

I reckon Nissan's complete inability to make a good pickup truck these days is something they should be utterly ashamed of. Back in the 60's and 70's, their pickups were legendary for their toughness as were Toyota's. Time to start making these again (but maybe with some rustproofing this time, eh?)

Pick-up trucks have become lifestyle vehicles. I hate that description but there it is.

They're aspirational.

Indeed, I remember when people used to aspire to driving something that wasn't a commercial vehicle. It's like these people you see on Grand Designs who build themselves an industrial unit to live in.

Not unless you hail from Inskip.

Rusty bits.

Up top, looked OK, underneath looked a little bit rusty.

Did you buy it?

I may be  mad.... But not that mad.

Crispy fried B pillar bases, Broken Zorst and other bits put me off.

Do Terranos hide their rot well? They nearly always look quite tidy on the surface. Wouldn't mind one, TD27 engine for munching veg at a hyper rate.

I reckon the most our work one will ever carry is about 70kgs at the absolute most, and 99% of the time it'll be carrying eff all. That will also include rear seat passengers, being as I don't think there's a single member of staff who's under 3 years of age and has no legs.
