The 90's Called..... It Wants It's Cars Back!

Currently housesitting for friends in the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden. Whilst considered to be one of the city's poshest suburbs, it is nevertheless littered with 90's chod. It is everywhere you look. While most motors of this age have generally gone over the bridge in the UK, they are very much still in daily use here. The following spots are from two streets only!post-17378-0-85718500-1398405171_thumb.jpg These are to be found on every street corner! Just realised that the second picture should have been a Mitsi Mirage but is somehow MIA! To be honest, that was probably only about half of the 90s chod on display but I didn't want to attract any attention taking photos when folk were around. I mean who in their right mind (obviously I am excluding Auto Shiter's here) would be taking pictures of hum drum old cars!! Forgot to include my own slice of 90's motoring nirvana, so here it is below in all it's glory.post-17378-0-88332700-1398410915_thumb.jpg

I found that in Aus, so possibly NZ too, the kids in the family tend to inherit their parents old cars when they learn to drive. Which probably explains why all this stuff is still about.

Also people buy new a lot out there.

Does the Jap stuff start off in NZ or is a lot of it imported secondhand? I'm guessing that although we're about the same distance from Japan, the fact there's nothing but sea to cross to NZ it's pretty cheap to ship cars over.

Yip, most of the 90's Jap tin would not have been NZ new. It does throw up some real domestic only oddballs which I will look out for and hopefully get some photos of. Jap cars are significantly cheaper to run and buy than anything European as the latter are considered much more of a status symbol and owners tend to get stung with "European Car" tax when it comes to servicing and repairs

Funnily enough I noticed on more than one occasion that really posh areas are awash with beaten up old shite.

That's because they save their money by not rushing out to buy Kias on tick every 18 months. Then again, I struggle to understand why anyone would buy a Kia or Hyundai.

Exactly. I would say this on here but people basically with nothing to prove drive old shit heaps.

But they still have to prove they've got nothing to prove, so in doing so they're still proving they've got nothing to prove.

It's too hard this, I need a cup of tea.
