I was totally pssd off when a 17D (Visa) set off in front of me from Calais docks and I could barely keep pace, in my fast Kraut machine. This was when driving still required skill, on disembarcation - nasty N-roads with just two lanes and one carriageway were all that connected the M2/20 with our French chums and the rest of Europe.

Later that same day, a boggo Reggie Sank left me trailing on a windy road somewhere near Metz. Lesson - German cars are only good for driving in straight lines and not having to overtake. I learned.

It was making decent progress, but no match for my brothers 1.9 tdi of dooom!

I didn't know there was such a thing as a Visa convertible!

I was looking through an old 'Car' magazine earlier. The Visa 17D is one of their Top ten cars of 1987. There were more French cars than anything else in Car's Top ten - including 3 Citroens.

'Top ten 1987' were Citroen 2CV6 Special; Citroen Visa 17D; Renault 5GT Turbo; Citroen BX 19TRS; Caterham 1700 Super Sprint; Ford Sierra RS Cosworth; Audi 100CD; Range-Rover Vogue; Jaguar Sovereign 3.6; Porsche 911 Carrera.

In '87 German makers didn't dominate journalist's opinions yet.

Was that the issue they photographed them on the deck of a warship?

I think the cabriolet was 1984 only; can't be many survivors.

Last week, it was a Corsa. This week, a Visa.

I wonder what small hatchback I'll find out they made a floppytop version of next week?

Visa is quite unusual in being a four-door convertible. I guess they were still trying to push it as a 2CV replacement.

French 4 door floppy top . Hmm bet that's rigid. No scuttle shake here ,nothing to see ,move along now.

This wasn't on the deck of a warship, but on an old industrial quayside.
