Talbot Horizon Collection Story: also contains Horizon and Princess car "pawn"

I now have two vehicles from the year 1981 as thanks to the wonderful Craig the Princess and his LDV van I am now in possession of an extremely Beige Talbot Horizon. Whereas Leyland for example seemed to like contrasting interior and external colour's Talbot decided the interior would benefit from being the same as the exterior.

First off I had a very interesting ride from New Street to March in a class 170. It's  a very interesting line especially the Leicester to Peterborough Section with its traditional signal boxes and lovely old stations. Unfortunatley due to my phone battery being low I got few pictures.

Craig Picked me up from March station in his lovely Citroen AX (a car I had never travelled in) and took me back to his house to pick up his LDV and Trailer. From there we headed to Ingham near Bury St. Edmunds. Unfortunately due to the wonders of technology the sat-nav took us to Ixham which is a few miles away. We were running late by this point and Justin the seller of the Horizon had to go back to work but left the gate open so we could load the car and take it away. I had already paid him and received the log book so that was not a problem.

The journey back was quite quick with a quick stop for lunch. Only a little traffic on the M6 held us up.

Unfortunately apart from being overtook by some golf buggies there was nothing of interest to see on the way home not that I would have captured it as my phone battery had died by then!

Anyway here are a few photos

I will put some pictures of the Princess and Horizon at home up shortly.

Would like to say a massive thanks to Craig who was a real brick and very professional too. I only wish we had longer to chat when we got back.

It was a very enjoyable day and I hope to clean the Horizon and hopefully jump start it in between my Good Friday Organist duties!

These are my current fleet (apart from the Fiesta which I will be putting on ebay over the weekend)

The Princess is taxed and Mot'd and is running well apart from a blowing exhaust which I have ordered a couple of manifold clamps. I think it also needs tracking and balancing. Apart from that it is just a case of keeping an eye on clutch and brake fluid and oil levels. Going to start on the bodywork over the weekend tackling the small areas of rust. The bigger areas will have to wait for the weekend after!

I still can't get over how beige the Horizon is. It seems pretty solid although both front wings have a fair amount of filler. I'm going to give her a wash today and try and get her jump started. Will try and give the interior a good clean over the weekend and see if I can somehow remake the name badges or see if I can find replacements on ebay! I don't like de-badged cars, I certainly don't see the point of it!

We were saved by Peter suggesting we use the very battered 2006 £1.99 road atlas in the van. ALL MODRN TECH IZ BALlZ!

Fun day yesterday, the excitement of collecting a new car without the hassle of having to store it.

Brilliant. I have a soft spot for these, and it certainly ticks the 'beige' box.

LOL at the sticker in the back window of Craig's AX!

Since you seem to be missing some letters, is the badging on the back going to say 'Talbot HOT TROUZA'? I do hope so.

 Haha yes it could do!

Maybe it was an option at the time will give you the letters, you make up the model name! It's very bizarre anyway!

I must admit I do love maps and collect them but I do find sat-navs are a very useful modern device, when they don't get confused!

Just realised my mechanic has one of my batteries so going to pick it up in a bit and try and get her started.

You and me both! So an organ player who drives a beige Princess and a beige Horizon, There's nothing eccentric there then! ;)

I'm looking forwards to seeing your progress with this one.

Thanks Trigger I will update the thread regularly. I can't promise a thread of vulgalor proportions however buy I'll do my best.

Most people generally think I'm eccentric which I don't mind. An organ playing chorister who likes old cars, buildings and trains. I do like football though and pubs so not all eccentric!

Mmmm. Horizon.

In other news, I really need to get an LDV 400. My colleague has a crewcab pickup which is easily the least worst LDV I've ever driven, so on that reckoning 400s must be better than half the woeful sack of shite Convoys I've driven.

Seems pretty solid, sills/cills look good, apparently it has been waxoiled at some point although haven't been under neath yet. The front wings have some rust and filler so will need some attention, apart from that it looks pretty good.

Have tried to start her, she turns but doesn't fire. I think petrol is getting through, I have just put some in as I wonder if the old petrol has gone stale. But as the battery is flat again and I haven't time to jump start her again I will put it on charge overnight!

I was surprised to find she has electronic ignition fitted its original Chrysler as well not an after market fit, I was expecting point and condensor. At least that is one less thing to have to worry about re the not firing.

I have also found a missing B and I on the floor for the name badge puzzle!

I have just bought a suitable tatty Haynes manual from ebay also!

Well fresh petrol hasn't made any difference. Unfortuantely all four spark plugs seem to be held in the block by nuclear fusion so I can't even check for spark. Have covered them in WD40 will try again tomorrow.

Off to sing then a pint so it will wait!

This may sound strange, but your princess looks like it has a happy 'face'.

Can't remember what it says I will have a read tomorrow. The bottle is fine but one end of the rubber strap that holds it up is damaged and the hook won't stay attached to it. I am sure it is an easy fix.
