Over my dead body.........

I was recently accused of being the owner of a tatty P38 that was parked near our Village Hall recently, nothing to do with me ,but I admit to having form for parking anything with tax randomly around the place and not telling her.

I had that last year when a black Hyundai Sonata appeared opposite my house. Despite lusting over it, it wasn't mine and my neighbours didn't believe me. Even had a note through the door about it. Bastards.

Is there something you're not telling us?

Got to say this makes Mrs. Cort1977 sound reasonable.   She likes my Cortina, was quite amused by the Niva,  helped push a selection of knackered Sierras and Astras in the good old days and is not too embarrassed by the current pimp tastic '74 Pontiac.

Admittedly she is not really an appreciator of chod, just doesn't give it much thought as long as she has a modern that works at all times and the neighbours don't complain.

When I was 19 I allowed my father to talk me out of buying a Bristol 405, he died shortly after but by then the Bristol had sold. The only person who has talked me out of buying things since is me. Currently on the I want to buy it, but think I shouldn't because I'd probably be disappointed, is the Volvo 240 estate I sold in 2009. I don't need it although I'd like it back anyway, but I know that by now it is unlikely to be the car that it once was.

My wife doesn't really care as long as she can get in a car and take the kids somewhere.  That said, she knows I'm slightly too sensible. A colleague told me about an H-Van pickup that is near his parents house in Poland. He said "only problem is the price, it's 300 euros and left hand drive".  Hmmmmm thought me. Oh and he found someone who could deliver it for £150.

Told the wife, who just said "can I convert it into a mobile kitchen and sell overpriced coffees to the footballers wives at the local park?".

Common sense prevailed - as much as I'd love to own an H, I think it would quickly infuriate me.

It is tempting. But I've already lined up some new chod to fill the garage in the new house...

Isn't that ludicrously cheap for one of those in ANY condition? they seem to go for thousands when they come up for sale here.

Details of the h-van please!that'd score me mondo brownie points:)

Re mothers, had 2 instances of getting into trouble as a pup:

1. Bought a 4.0 Xj40 at the age of 19. Death stares all round-which were later rescinded as she wafted majestically at 120mph on the local private road*

2. E30 325 auto touring. By this time I'd moved out - my own man,no need to tell parents etc, so paid 250 sight unseen for the car (in Farnborough) then caught a flight from Glasgow, kipped overnight then drove it up the road. Arrive at parents for to get a well deserved cuppa-greeted with my mum saying "why did I hear a BMW straight 6 come up our street, when I know your 320 is parked outside".

Dang. However she likes the straight 6 sound so much her daily is an e60 520i with the 2.3 m54 in it;)

My late mother didn't like it if I or my late dad brought home a car she hadn't been consulted about, although this was less of an issue for me after I finally moved out.  The 1975 Mini we bought and hid away for her wedding-anniversary present one year might have been a contributory factor to her attitude.

MrsR puts up with a lot, but in the usual manner is quite capable of contradicting herself.  She told me she had always wanted a sports car; within a week she had an X1/9.  Grateful?  Wanna bet?   Otherwise, she has always been tolerant of my chod purchases as long as she had something new (-ish) and economical for daily use.  She really loved her 1996 Proton, for example, but in the nearly 4 years we had that I went through a Metro, Cadillac, Lada, Montego, BMW, Mini, and Daimler.  And that's just off-the-cuff, I may have forgotten a couple.  She thinks my MR2 looks nice, even though she may never be able to get in and out of it.  I don't think she quite understands why I sold off a perfectly good Volvo estate, which she knows I love, for something that looks like one of my trainers, but she's happy enough for me to have it.  She also doesn't get why I would want to flog that off in the autumn for another Volvo (or some such) but again, she does see that I'm not spending much money so I'm allowed.

When I met my better half  , I told her from the beginning that I am a car-guy who has car´s in mind all the time. So take me as I am...

It worked out well, she married me. :-D
