Very nice. Was this one of their 'compacts', as it doesn't seem as large as some other US stuff.

What the hell is going on with that picture it looks like the porch on the house is coming out the boot? It makes my head hurt.

Given that a Rover V8 was a Buick when it was a baby, and given that Oldsmobile and Buick were/are both GM brands, it's actually Yank and Yank, sort of.

EDIT:  DERRRR, I see that it really does have the Buick plant.

Top buy!

Brilliant - GLWTP. Can we expect multiple petrol forecourt shots of this on the way home?

The yanks did not like the newfangled ness of an alloy engine.

Because it needed anti freeze/ corrosion inhibitor in it cooling system.

As they are fond of saying "go figure."

Cracking car though.

nowt wrong with them early Buick 225 alloy lumps -  but the yanks had a lot of problems casting ALUMINUM, so outed it

to Rova who had a 2 year training stint free from GM.

nice motor  -enjoy !

(edited to add  Bren beat me to it !!)

Lovely! Nice to see it in an understated colour and without 20 inch chromed wheels

It's a Buick 215 engine, not a 225. 225 was the length in inches of the first Electra 225 in 1959 and the moniker somehow stuck to the top range Electras from then on, regardless of their length.

The only problem the yanks had with the 215 was that the 'Senior Compacts' it went in were considered too small by the consumers and therefore didn't sell, this is the sole reason the whole thing was shelved by GM, and replaced with the 'Intermediates' (Chevelle/Skylark/Cutlass/Tempest).

Although the Rover V8 is based on the Buick 215, it is severely altered ('adapted to European driving habits' in Spen King speak) and only few parts are actually interchangeable between the two.

Nice car though.

According to the Standard catalogue of American cars, out of a year's production of 477000 odd only 11% where manuals, so it's probably pretty rare. At least it's got a proper gearbox [Muncie] not some half arsed TR7 arrangement.
