Overnight Shite Collection Thread!

Just got on a MEGABUS sleeper of all things, heading from Edinburgh to that fancy London. All so I can buy some shite and drive home again!

I had promised my wife that I wouldn't buy a second car until she went back to work after maternity leave, but this looks a bargain and should be perfect for us!

As you can see, not too much space, but more comfy than it looks (so far!)

From the first photo I thought you were going to sleep in the overhead luggage rack.

That's what it feels like! Felt a bit sea sick coming out of town, when you go round corners you feel like your going to fall out of bed! Now we are on the A1 and it's not too bad. Compared to sleeping next to 5 month old twins anyway...

Arrived in London, just need to get one of those massagers that walks up and down your back! It's not in the best shape after a night on here! Who would have thought a hammock on a double decker bus wouldn't be comfy?

Megabus is the true shiter's collection transport, trains are a bit decadent really. Your joints will ease off after a bit of walking.

I went to London by Megabus in 2002 for £1 each way. I was horrified when an ancient Leyland Olympian showed up at Dundee, but the driver reassured me that we'd be getting a new bus at Glasgow. Then I realised Glasgow was about two hours away. One of the drivers, who called himself Magic Joe, felt the need to make an announcement every time I'd almost dropped off to sleep.

Looking forward to more updates.

Scotoshiters have no limits when it comes to travelling ridiculous distances to buy shite. My cap is truly doffed.

Thanks guys! Have taken more photos but can't upload them from my phone, will sort them later. Here is the obligatory petrol station shot (cheating as I filled up at tesco but it was too busy to faff about taking pictures!) revealing that I have bought Tetleysmooth Dave's Grand Voyager! Early impressions are really good and Dave was a gentleman, was good to meet you mate!

Tayne, I'm 5" 10 too and it was ok just for length, but pretty narrow! Managed to get some sleep.

Dollywobbler, all this way and it's not even a Volvo!

Cheers Richard, your right, the Megabus did suit the Autoshite vibe!

Nice to meet you too Alan, and thanks for putting up with my mates in the cafe.

It could have been... could still, even, if you haven't got to M6J36 yet! ;)

I do like your car Eddy, I even looked at 7 seat conversions on eBay! This one just suits my current needs better

NP, just a spot of relentless promotion going on!  Enjoy the Voyager! :-D

So, got back home at 5pm after 7 hours 2 stops and 430 miles! Don't feel like it though, never had a more comfortable long distance drive.

Apologies as this thread is all over the place, blame the MEGABUS for non functioning wifi, and my phone/tapatalk for not posting pictures! Will now have a quick recap with the photos I couldn't upload

There was a rustling noise all night, thought Gary Lineker was in the next bunk, but no it was this tube, wrapped in tinfoil like he had survived a disaster! It wasn't that bad...

From Victoria got the Tube to Tower hill, walked out and up to Fenchurch Street, and got a Train to Barking

Finally changed here for Rainham and waited for Tetleysmooth, we completed our deal in a tesco car park then retired to a cafe for a celebratory coffee and sausage roll

So got back in one piece, the car runs really well, and not as thirsty as I thought it would be, looking a bit tight in its new home though! Needs some work as it said in the advert, but nothing urgent, looking forward to getting to know it a bit better over the next few weeks.

Thanks again to Dave, I appreciate I got a good deal!

Matt black the bonnet & fit a couple of 'racing' stripes over it.

Well I've learned something new today.  I never knew Megabus did a sleeper service.  How much do they charge for the use of a hammock from Scotlandshire to the Big Smoke?

Posted

^ I was wondering that too as it looks a decent way to get down there.

Top purchase Alan and a good write up as well. Hopefully we'll see it at a Scotoshite meet eventually ;)

Posted

It cost £35, but I bought it the day before, may be cheaper booking early. That's for travel, bed and breakfast (well, a wee carton of apple juice and a cereal bar!). I was working to half 7 Saturday, so it suited me perfect.

Yeah, not made one since the babies arrived! Wednesdays are not great for me. Will make an effort to come along this month

Looks like you're going to need those powerfold mirrors, if you keep parking up that drive Alan.

Remember, if you're going to replace the passenger side mirror, you'll need one with two plugs.

For the benefit of the rest of you chaps, I smashed a mirror coming home from work early one morning (really not my fault), and I was sold a wrong replacement. To function fully, these mirrors need two plugs, the one I was sent only had one.

Normally, people say, 'oh, keep your eye on such and such', but with this car, I didn't have to. The fluids never drop.

A gearbox service may be a good idea at some time, but the Chrysler only ATF is eye wateringly expensive.

Apparently, the gearbox was a recon unit before I got the bus.

Blimey I just couldn't be arsed with that. Good on you for going to get it though.
