More Sri Lankan Toss

Greetings!  Inspired by Ghosty's recent thread on SL shite, I thought it was time I pulled my finger out and uploaded some more of mine for your delectation.

First up is this embarrassing VW thing seen in Negombo

OuQNf30.jpg

Next up is this Ford, which I mistook for a Mk 2 Astra at first.  Wonder why we never got these in Blighty?

d3Qm82k.jpg

I saw this in Kandy.  Looked quite smart.

Kz76Qxv.jpg

The flying plughole is still alive and kicking over here.  The buses over here are either Leyland or Tata and are pretty no-nonsense tough-as-old-boots things which are generally packed solid with people hanging from the sides as well...

8k1Dtho.jpg

Somewhat ropey Marina, one of a handful that seemed to make their way over here.  70s Leyland stuff's a bit thin on the ground, except for Minis.  I've seen one Austin 1300 but bugger all Allegros, Maxis etc.

tsMqKBX.jpg

This Hunter was pretty fucked but was owned by a dreamer who said he'd restore it.  There was also an A35 and a completely shagged Minor in his yard.

44jrMBE.jpg

This Pug looked OK from a distance.  When you got closer, it looked like David Blunkett had applied the filler and paint...using his dog as the brush.

This beauty was in Gampola.  Rougher than a bears arse, it was...

lmXHaiw.jpg

Sri Lanka's full of trucks like this.  Wood-panelled Tata things based on ancient Merc designs.

w7KB36j.jpg

Most Minors here are 4-door ones but here's a nice Traveller seen in Galle.  Are they Micra wheels?

udcWs2Y.jpg

Wouldn't mind a ride in this...

kkdYIzQ.jpg

This Ponton Merc was in for a complete retrim.  It had had the body sorted recently and looked nice but they were asking silly money for it.

 lt8u7Mb.jpg

Nice Prefect, which was up for sale, but again, he wanted the equivalent of 10k for it.  Yeah, right.

qEmZV1a.jpg

Considering the mental drivers here, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

ydxCWHj.jpg

This Wyvern had apparently been in the owner's family since new and he couldn't possibly even dream of selling it, he told me, before, in the next breath, telling me it could be mine for 5 bags.....

 Uhavx.jpg

Sorry for the appalling pic quality.  Taken on a Chinese Nokia...This is the only one of these I've seen here.

CrZNt.jpg

Another crappy bus.

692z5.jpg

Here's that Montego again, just to show it's great* bodywork.

iFEjU.jpg

Here's that A35 I mentioned from the same yard as the Hunter.

JZtcTzH.jpg

Sri Lankans have a sense of humour...

dncMMsi.jpg

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this hideous POS.  I had to be quick snapping it as the owner was behind the car and was none-too-impressed with me.

yCPyEj0.jpg

Sherpa mobile* shop.  The cab was filled with shite, plus the fact it was on 3 wheels meant it's not exactly mobile these days...

rwTAvk1.jpg

Nice old Morris van.

gWvUsYX.jpg

I hope you enjoy these!  TTFN!

Toyota Corona EXiV, I think.

A very fine assortment  :-D

Love the Morris LD,  I went to look at an Austin version a while back but it was too far gone.

Nice to see a Montego over there; wasn't expecting that

That's got me singing Montego Bay now !!

However, in this case, you spotted the exception. This is a mutilated MAN Rundhauber.

Junk fella I usually trust ya but you need to turn your seeing aid up a bit! The only similarity there is they is both trucks.

That Ford is a Festiva - an Asia/US only model joint developed with Kia. It was the second Festiva model - over there, it replaced the car that we know as the Kia Pride - it was sold with Ford badges outside Europe.

We didn't get the pictured one, because they just kept selling old shape Kia Prides over here until 2000ish.

That shagged Minor, wasn't this fellas, was it?

Who knows where he is living, these days.

I bet that Montego has better rear arches than the ones attatched* to mine!

Ghosty beat me to it on the Festiva thing. In other parts of Asia, it was a Ford Aspire. (Almost as ironic as a Mitsubishi Charisma.)

Welcome to AS Brian.

In SL on your hols/expat/other?

Anyway, that's a pleasing selection you've papped there... some regular Asian porn with a few BL hotties thrown in for good measure. What else could a man want?

I particularly enjoyed the three wheeled Sherpa taxi office:

WEDDING CAR / VAN / LORRY / BUS / BOOM TRUCK

Fucking LOL!

Hello!  I've been living over here for some time now.  I'm an English teacher here and last year, I got married to a gorgeous Sri Lankan girl so life's pretty good!

I haven't got much left car-wise to share with you all so here are the last ones I have, including some non-shite related stuff.

I know these have been on here before but to me, they look like one and a half Micras welded together.

 9hnaRYe.jpg

Some of you may recall I posted some shots from a dealer's premises in Mawanella.  He gets old classics, does them up then sells them on.  He has some good stuff, such as this Opel Kapitan

dNLt6hJ.jpg

Here's some more tat from that very same yard.  Austin Somerset

Devon and Minor

More Devons

Lowlight Minor saloon awaiting the welder.

Minx and Oxford

AyEZiLs.jpg

Big old Austin with heroic welding.  There's an old guy who makes all the repair panels and does all the welding.  He's damn good at it, too

Toyota saloon thing.

Ropey customised Minor.  Remember the pics of the lowlight convertible I posted?  This was in the same yard, as was this

And this

Willys Jeep

LSN10x9.jpg

This horrible POS.

There are still a few bullock hackeries around over here, like this one:

GmPlNi8.jpg

Now.  A few non-car snaps.  Slightly inappropriate slogan, I'd say...

1Sxxi9c.jpg

Sri Dalada Maligawa (the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy) in lights.  Looked fantastic.

b8LthWm.jpg

Pronounce this!  The language at the top is Sinhala, the second one is Tamil.  Both are a bugger to learn but I can get by in Sinhala.

v6y2qCR.jpg

Every August there's the Perahera in Kandy.  10 days of religious pageantry and more elephants than you could shake a stick at.  Here are three of the buggers

That Micra Estate looks fugly.

Welcome along and thanks for sharing your photos Brain.

I think Old Man has some pics of that Austin, or another one of them. It's sitting under a tarp with all the panels in place but not bolted on.

Morris LD 1.5 Ton. I'm in the middle of a deal to bag a set of those type split rims....!
