My new steed unveiled - NSFU (not safe for underwear) - update

Very nice, drum. :) The dashboard and steering wheel are almost identical to my sister's old 1.6 Mayfair. Having once had 2 Maestros in the family, I don't know what the purpose is of that rotating knob on the parcel shelf.

I'm really sorry, but I'm never sure which I hate more, my ex wife or her Meastro

1.3HLE with a horrible traffic light style gauge on the dash

Awful car.

The plastic knob thing is for locking it to the back of the rear seat when the seat's folded.

Yeah, 4 gears.

It's a good wee starter and runner so I'm going to put it on the road and use it as my daily for a while.

The family love the old land rovers and the allegro provides a certain amount of amusement but this latest addition is being met with bewilderment. They'll get over it.

I put some road tax on the rover (I know, but that's what it says on the log book) then, as the weather was miserable, took it for a cruise.

Refinements on offer in the clubman include; tilt/slide sunroof, rear demist, two rear view mirrors with in-car adjustment, and intermittent wiper with four frequency settings.

It's making all the correct noises for being a reliable wee runabout. Starts on the button and runs smooth with some fine tuning on the manual choke knob. Quite nippy too with the ground speed dial needle indicating 70 in short order.

Unfortunately the driver's footwell got progressively moist as I drove. Not sure where from as there were no obvious drips coming from the pedals or bulkhead area and the rain wasn't heavy. I'll need to get underneath for a looksee.

I worked the main dealer (Marshalls) when these were current

Lots of them leaked lots.....used to be full dash out job most times.......but easy job and cheaper than bilge pump!

check the bulkhead for the rubber flaps that let the water out of scuttle before it flows thru the heater onto your toes- they clog up with chod like door bottoms do

also check the pipes in pas foot well for heater matrix its quite standard for the pipe to rust on the flange where it joins the matrix

the elastic on the shelf was sposed to stop the strings dangling in the boot when shelf is in down position

I seem to remember that German bloke Burnt Fishtrousers, you know, the head guy at BMW, was utterly gobsmacked on visiting the newly acquired Rover factory in 1994 to discover they were actually STILL MAKING Maestros. He thought they were some device from about 20 years ago.

Which means, of course, what you could have there is a BMW Maestro.

We had maestros in the family back in the day, and I'd love an MG one, preferably a turbo, however no lottery win last night so....... It's only a dream

I only ever owned one, a maestro van with the 2.0 perkins donk. aside from an unhealthy appetite for front wheel bearings it was a great little van, not rusty and totally reliable. I went on to fit a turbo diesel from a montego in it. It went like stink (relatively) then.

I'm using the 'stro everyday, have covered about 1500 miles since buying it in feb and so far it's been the dogs hairy balls. Even the wife is liking the attention she gets in it.

One needs to make the right impression on the annual salmon fishing trip to the Spey. Yes, I am one of those knobs.

Who needs a range rover.

Three hour trip including the A93 at over 2000 feet above the sea and A939 Cockbridge - Tomintoul. No sweat to the 'stro. Don't worry, the fishing rod wasn't stuck on the outside on the way there.

It's a bit scabby round the edges.

Paid through the nose for new wings and front valance off eBay but they were the right colour.

Made good use of bank holiday Monday unbolting things.

Where can I get rear wheel arches?

Posted

Easy peasy fix on the wings and valance. What's 'through the nose' out of interest? Genuinely interested to compare to the panels on something like my Anglia, which range from £lol for scabby stuff up to £wtf for NOS or repops.

Posted

Cheers VA. I gave them a phone and left a message. Hopefully they'll have some arches for me.

My reading of the maestro and Montego forum suggests they're hard to come by. I joined a couple of weeks ago but they must be running my name through Interpol as I haven't been authorised to post yet.

Kinnock - £147 including postage. This might be cheap but the car only cost £200. They were in the back of someone's shed so not exactly NOS. They're like new though.
