The makers of a new adaptation of

The Sweeney

are calling on classic owners in the capital to get their cars on screen.

A group of classic car owners have teamed up with Lincolnshire-based film company Tin Hat Productions to create a new film based on the hit 1970s series, and are now calling on anyone with cars appropriate to the production’s 1977 setting to get involved with the final two days of filming, taking place this weekend.

Chris Parsons, scriptwriter, told CCFS: “It’s a new script, but it’s got all the traditional Sweeney elements – swearing, sawn-off shotguns, car chases and so on, and we’ve done everything we can to make it as authentic as possible.

“Everything in the film, right down to the cigarette packets and the tax discs in the cars, is completely period for 1977.

“The film has no special effects or stunt-doubles, so although it won’t have the action-packed explosions on a level to match the Fast and Furious films, it will look as realistic as can possibly be achieved on a shoestring budget on real streets, a bit like the real programme.â€Â

The independent, self-funded film grew out of a visit by fans of the original series to some of the show’s filming locations in 2012, and has developed into efforts to film a faithful, detailed recreation, featuring dozens of classics.

Vauxhall FD Victor owner Chris added that while most of the scenes had already been filmed, he was keen to hear from anyone with a classic who might like to get involved with the final shoot in South East London this weekend.

The film, which uses fully licensed incidental music from the original The Sweeney TV series, is due to be completed later this year.

got a Mk1 init! Top bunch of blokes, and the prod co are great.

BUT they havent made any attempt to seek permission to use the copywrite elements owned by ITV, which worries me they may come unstuck when it comes out. I hope I am wrong and wish em well.

Oh come on. "swearing, sawn-off shotguns, car chases and so on...", the latter most likely meaning b00bz, knockers, parakeets, hooters, headlights.

Considering all these essential attributes, I bet it'll be good.

Pity you don't know anyone with a pair of P6's , hubcaps off ,blue blow over ,couple of work lights and a little blue light stuck on the roof. Instant Met area cars circa 1977.

I'd be interested if i was a bit closer, beside I don't think the weather will be looking favourable over them this weekend.  :?

Everything in the film, right down to the immaculate mid 60s cars and the Mk5 Cortina in the background is completely period for 1977

Why oh why can the absolute elite of the Film world not just Fuck off and leave the Sweeney alone?

John Thaw and the original cast were definitive, 21st century remakes even with 'authentic' Tax discs and fag packets do not a good programme make.

Does the Guy who dreamt up the idea think he can improve it? if he does then he's even more of a cockwand than I take him for.

Fair enough, I read the Sweeney forum every now and then and they seem like a knowledgeable bunch, if it does come to fruition I really hope I have to eat my words and admit it's good, just can't see it somehow.
