Sending a gearbox to the states... what's the best way?

Hi all.

I need to send a gearbox and prop to the U.S. I could shrink wrap it to a euro pallet or something or wrap it in bubblewrap, whatever's needed.

Anyway, what's the best way (i.e cheapest) way of getting it to the U.S. Will I have to pay import duty and stuff?

CHEERZ.

No idea on cheapest other than to say it will be very friggin dear I'd expect. I reckon on a pallet will be your best way from a handling perspective. As far as customs charges go, they'll be the responsibility of whoever is receiving it in the US.

A shipping crate would be safer. Ill make a few calls for you, we import kit from the states regularly so should be able to find out.

I'm hoping it will be no more than £150 or so, although someone told me they send 6x gearboxes on a pallet to the states for £80, which seems excessively cheap.

I'd have thought a pallet was a pallet when it comes to shipping (as in with real ships) and they don't give a chuff what's on it as long as it's not a three foot cube of lead or something. One gearbox will need the same handling as six.

I'd be more worried about the length of the prop?

Crate rather than a pallet.

Someone wanted a 306 gti-6 bottom end shipped to the US, cheapest quote for euro pallet was around the 300 mark iirc.
