Just discovered that you can off set petrol costs against CSA so need advice on a barge that does Feck Hall to the gallon!

I'm thinking P38 Rangie- but do they break down loads?

W8 Pissat -too chavvie?

Lexus LS400- too giffery?

Don't really want a Shaguar just want something to us when I pick the munchkins up at the weekends. Autoshiters esteemed advice will be appreciated.

Luxo barge, economy no object?  Come to the top of the tree with me!

It's even beige! 8)   (Occurs to me to wonder if it's the same one David Morrissey drove in the series "Blackpool" )

I had a 79 which is almost identical; you can expect 15-18 out of it in daily use.

PS: that middle one, which may not come up, is a 1977 Cadillac Fleetwood in Blackpool.  It says the listing may heve been moved or ended, but if I click it from my watch list it comes up.  You might try a search for Cadillac....

This is what it looks like, anyhow...

Forget the big cars. Do the sensible thing, a nice little 03 plate Agila like the one in the pic above.

You want a jag xjr namely mine what I am selling

Fraid don't want a Shaguar even though the XJR is quite tasty. Looked at a Daimler but the bagre must be a five seater not a four.

How about a 12 Pot Beemer?

If I'm lucky I can pick a newer shape 750il up but is this taking me out of autoshiteness? Is the Merc s500 a shiters car or an old giffer mobile?

Can you give us a clue about your budget?  That might help us suggest suitable* cars.

When I had my 79, my mate at work had a 3.9 RR.  He was (he admitted openly) jealous, as he could barely get 15 even being feather-footed.  I then sold it and bought a 4.2 Daimler Sovereign, and got a shock!  Think I'd have done better swopping with Mick!

Kids in the back?  An Eldorado has about the same space in the back as a Granada, and huge doors, but point taken, I do understand the 4-door preference.

Budget: that grey 77, with loads of MoT, and taxed, is up at 2995...............

Speaking of thirsty old Jags....

There are others listed too...  But wait!  Doesn't one of our very own have a S3 listed right here, right now, for a bag?  You know you want to.... ;)

Errr...yes and no. If you think you can go and buy a humvee and then get the petrol costs offset, you'll be in for a rude awakening.

The CSA will only allow average/reasonable expenditure for travel costs to be offset. This means at best the cost of a mid range saloon/hatch at say 40 mpg over a distance. Alternatively, the cost of a second class rail ticket or bus/coach fare.

Similarly, if you need an overnight stay, it's no good booking into the Hilton. You'll get an overnight stay in a travelodge or similar and not a penny more.

Pheatons don't really drop down to my budget yet, thats why a thought about a pisshat w8. All the Audi A8's look abit wank with a gazillion miles on the clock. The trouble is the more I look the more I become indecisive!

I forgot to mention that I'm in Zummerzet so I don't really want to drive more than say 100 miles radius.

Go for a BMW 740i. They're cheap, rapid, reliable and are easy and cheap to get bits for. I got one with a years mot for 350 quid last year.

If you want minimum mpg for no real performance or luxury wafting ability, may I suggest a Volvo XC90 T6.

Absolute piece of shit, slow gutless horrible mismatched auto box and won't better 20 mpg even on a cross Europe dawdle.

The same engine is available in the S80, but I can't believe its as bad in these.

To put it into perspective I used one to do the same holiday trip I'd previously done in a V8 carb Disco and a4.2LSE Range Rover and both Land Rovers used less fuel and got there quicker.

'phoned them up as I have a 80 mile round trip just to collect and the same to drop off and they said that I tell them my reg plate and the make; they know how many MPG's it does and then the cost is offset. If that is the case then that is why I want a huge giffer mobile. I'll only use it to collect and drop off the kids.

I'll call them again in the morning to reconfirm what they told me. After all Gov't agencies never get it wrong !!

How about German 12 cylinder sanity and money removal device?

If you're considering a BMW 750, could I point you in the direction of the rusty door marked 'A Whole World of Pain'.

The 4 litre v8s are about as quick and less complex. The 4.2v8 a8s are fantastic if you can find a good one. The facelift 2001 ones have a much nicer interior and aren't that expensive .
