Get your local tame Honda dealer to check it for recalls. There were 3 main ones iirc.

Seat belt pretensioners , had to remove roll frame etc and install clips to the inertia reels.

Spark plug change.

Upgraded piston oil jets.

Using a litre of oil every 1000 miles is normal and needs to be a c3 rated oil.

Gear boxes and clutches always seem gruff/ noisy and there about 6 supersessions for the clutch.

Rear diff is a Mazda unit and needs regular oil changes.

They handle best on the proper Bridgestone s02 tyres which were made for the car.

A good one is amazing to drive but do bite back if you get it wrong. Looks like it's bitten someone already. 😃

I'm sure your other half will love it.

1968 Austin FG

Get a flatbed on the back and you can send her on recovery missions. You have my word that this is an absolutely superb idea and nothing will go wrong.

I was after an fg for ages and gave up and bought a 71 tk and forgot about looking and then you post that picture.... Grr

TS300, thanks for that. very useful. It does have a full Honda history (so I'm guessing the recalls are done) -but I will check once legal.. Appreciated.

To the rest of you knobbers sending  marvellous alternates- thanks for the temptations!!

I'd love some of them, but I have to remember that this is for a 5'2'' gurlie, with no  knowledge of motas & 4 hrs  hard driving each day.

Hmmm, perhaps  that FG fits the bill?. I might just have something very similar, soon!

These are awesome cars. Honda's 'birthday present to itself' IIRC. Just check the oil level weekly because they do use some. They can bite mind, a mate of mine, who is a decent pedaller and kart racer, sent his down a ditch in the peak district, and found a wild bird of some sort (guessing grouse) wrapped right round one of the driveshafts :x

No problem Nigel. I was a Honda diagnostic tech from 2000 to 07 so have seen a couple . If you don't have a helpful dealer pm me the vin and my mate on the inside can check for you.

Lot's of bashed ones of these on the bay, many seem to have gone through the hedge backwards mind. Looks like it will be differently fun, I've heard much good about them though guess it will be suck it and see.

I've had one for 8 years now and I've had no problems apart from replacement discs and hood under warranty due to the previous owners neglect.

It's not a car for stop start traffic and you do have to get it over 6000rpm to make it really shift, ride is hard over poor surfaces and 80 is about 4500 rpm in top.

Seats are fucking ace mind, 9 hours from fort William to sunny northants was a doddle in it, and fuck me does it go when you get it into the Vtec band. The other side is that it's fairly tame and docile at low revs.

Me and the misses have no trouble driving it, she's 4'11" and I'm 6'3".

These don't really seem to be on anyone's radar really. 9000rpm must be a bit buzzy! I'm sure Mr Honda would have approved.

They're on mine. I've wanted one forever. They didn't do well in the glossy mags because they 'weren't a Porsche Boxster'. Yes, because everyone wants a symmetrically profiled toy Porsche that couldn't pull a fart out of a jacuzzi.

Apparently S2000s are 'snappy on the limit' and 'impossible to get back'. I disagree. I've driven the living cack out of a Phase 2 and caught it every time. My 'fast road' experience consists of doing a clutch dump in a moribund E36 318is and sliding a 50cc kart round a warehouse floor when I was seven. Can't be that difficult, surely?

You also steer like those instructors on the telly.

I can't drive to save my life, hence I always brought a big bloody V8 to a race.

I bet Mr Bickle's neighbours are going to love another car on the road, I heard he's got over 20 piles of varying autoshite out there at the moment. I did see rather a lot when down on business near bognor the other day, so did catch me by surprise.

20? Nowhere near. None are in anyone's way, several are borrowed by neighbs when theirs break, and there have been no complaints.

This car wont be ' on the road' till its sorted, at which point the Fiat will be retired, overhauled & probably barned.

If you've a problem with me -knock on the door. Don't snipe from a distance.

Lending cars out must take the complaint rate down to zero surely? Great way of neighbourly relations surely?

Works well, especially  as driving  a manual is difficult right now.  They borrow the 4wd for jump starts when its cold, trailer tip runs etc.

Scimitar gets borrowed at weekends (there's a surprise) & others when needed (servicing, break downs, spare car etc)

I encourage it.  Not yet had any problems -but I remain realistic.

Used to lend mine out aswell. The rule was you bend it you repair it! Seemed to work well and got on great with the neighbours

Blimey, wish I had a local shite-lending neighbour I could cadge a 30+-yr old motor off now and then! That wuold be ace.

Well Mr Bickle, you appear to be very defensive if you don't mind me saying. Nobody was counting precisely, no idea if more or less. Not sniping from a distance, don't even live near you. I happen to do some business in your local area, and a resident of your village has told me all about you and the feelings of some in your village. He knew I would be interested because I have a major interest in auto shite too. What you do is no concern of mine, I keep me and my cars to myself in my workshops up in Guildford. Have fun.
