Breaking my 1984 Porsche 944. Parts anyone?

Recommended Posts

Due to the extremely rusty sills and rear suspension mounts on my latest (unwise) purchase I have sadly decided the only sensible route is to break it for parts. Car is Sapphire Blue and is, at the moment, totally complete and running. Everything works.

Anyone need anything?

Does anyone know if the doors on the early 944's will fit the later (post 85.5) cars? Early one doesn't have central locking but later one does. Reason is that my 1988 car has a damaged drivers door and am looking to fit the door from the earlier car, but want to retain the central locking if all the gubbins will swap over.

As I'm sure you know, a fuel tank that doesn't piss unleaded or fumes is worth a couple of hundred quid.  Shame you have to take the gearbox out to access it of course.

I think stuff like suspension and hubs might be wanted by the aircooled VW crowd, so if the interior is good maybe try a punt on Volkszone?  Someone will have the brakes and seats for their 1303.

Thanks!

I didn't know any of the above, as have never tried to sell parts before now. Thanks for the info!

Tombstone seats seem to be popular. They are great seats, what do they look like?

They look ok. They are the black ones with the vertical white/grey pin stripes. No real wear or damage evident!

attachicon.gifseat.jpg^^^ I am interested if they are this fabric

Sadly not the same, they are the black ones with the white/grey vertical pin stripes.

The same as these later ones in my 1988 car.post-5532-0-03029800-1389877854_thumb.jpg

Door handles and absolutely anything with a Porsche logo is worth lots to us VW people.

If the back window doesn't leak or rattle, that's worth money, they were over £2k from Porsche

& what sort of wheels does it have on it?

Rear hatch and window doesn't leak or rattle.... It has the Cookie Cutter wheels. Black centres with polished rims if that helps?

Mines is an oval dash model so not a lot of the bits I need are compatible sadly.

I could do with a speaker cover from the front door if you have a one of the ones without the screw holes though?

As has been said, the door handles and cookie cutter 5 x 130 wheels will go to the VW lot for an amusing sum of money. The same goes for the glovebox lid button if it has the Porsche crest on it. Tombstone seats will probably find a buyer too even though they're not in Pascha.

I'd whop that little lot on eBay and see how you do.

I still owe you a pint \ model \ something for those Teledials.

Thanks for the info! You owe me nothing for the Teledials by the way.... They were, and still are free.

Am indeed just off the M55. Am in Lytham to be precise. Seats available for little money if still interested?

Is that right? I've got one of those in my shed. eBay here we come!

Them seats would look pretty good in a renault 4 van. To that end, how much for the front seats mister?

If you have an original working digital clock in the car then you need to carefully remove it and put it on ebay. 5 years ago I got £80 for mine.

Don't mention you are stripping it for 'the Oval', or people will think your a real nice guy - and want it all F-O-C. ;)

I am sure the metering head can be used as a means of making my RS1600i quicker drink more fuel.

I will look into this/how much would you be wanting for it?

I sold 5 identical alloys with centre caps but no tyres for £175. The wheels were hanging a needed a refurb.

Sold them on ebay to a VW guy - lots of mouthbreathers making shit offers but stick em on and hang in there - they WILL shift.

Hello, I'd be very interested in the following:

Seats front and rear

Steering wheel (if three spoke)

Gear knob and gaiter

Carpet around gearshifter

DME relay

Door cards

Sunroof cover

Dashboard (if not a horrific wasteland of shrunken and cracked chaos)

Centre armrest

Wheels and centrecaps

Rear bumper (if rubber not all wonky)

Trim over rear seats (between sunroof and glass)

Sunvisor clips

All to be fitted to a 944, to give it life and much loving... ahhhh :)

Price etc would be superduper.

Thank ye kindly.

Hi Bob,

I think 84 makes this a fairly early 944... which makes it pretty much the same mechanically as a 924S. I think.

Might be worth popping a post on the 924 owners club?

There's also a few folk there that run 944s.

Cheers,

Richard

'84 is a couple of years into the production... started in '82 with '83 model year as until then Porsche was obliged to use the VW-derived engine... the 924S has the "true Porsche" 2.5l engine, and a bit more oomph. Lighter than the 944 too, so theoretically even nippier.

*adjusts Farah slacks*

No. Because they detuned the 2.5 when they put it in the 924S.

From about 163 to 150 bhp.

Otherwise the narrow-body car would have been quicker and that would have been silly.

Actually, the '24S *is* quicker to 60... The '44 pips it on top end by a couple of mph. '88 model year cars had 160bhp... :)

Silly, but true!
