Cougars are actually alright. I loved mine - the Cougar 2 is the one that will be worth cash though. Mild facelift in 2001 with revised dash/seats/lights. Apparently they sold very few before it was decided to discontinue the car.

Ford perverts will be jizzing all over them in years to come

Dunno, I quite like the Cougar.

That said if someone offered me a Calibra or a Cougar I would plump for the Calibra.

This is just around the corner from me and not moved in about 10 years.

All the tyres are flat now and its gathering moss. its a 2.0 on a P plate

I weighed in a calibra a few years back because I couldn't give it away. Was an SE7 in magic grey with cream heated leather etc. P reg. sod all wrong with it except holes in the boot lid where I'd removed the car penis shopping trolley spoiler.

Taxed and tested I couldn't get 400 quid. One guy looked at it, loved it and told me. "But I only have 200 quid mate"

So I sold the alloys and tyres for £100, the leather for £100, the oil pressure/volt gauges for 25 and the fuel computer for 30 odd.

Cashed the tax and weighed the rest in for 180. What a bloody waste but it was the only way I could get my money.

Stylish, a bit different, reliable, nippy and great on fuel. Why does no one want?

I would have agreed with you when they where current but now - as is often the case - I'm actually rather drawn to them!

I don't know, I pass a Probe taking SWMBO to work and it still looks horrible. The Cougar just looks ridiculous to me, those sort of angular swoopy lines, typical hateful interior and the general weirdness.

Like Bollz, IO'm finding myself drawn to those Astra Coopz lately. They're getting well cheap, and I reckon they're a bit of a looker. I do like the look of a Calibra, but just don't think I could stomach looking at a Cav Mk3 dashboard every time I went for a drive!

I went to see a 97/98-ish Astra Mk3 1.4. It had loads of MOT and was taxed until the end of the month, for £200.The temp gauge hadn't budged yet as soon as I took off the expansion cap it was literally FIZZING AT THE BUNGHOLE and the water looked suspiciously clean. Two mile test drive saw the temp climbing rapidly and the seller turning the heaters on, which I promptly turned off again. Anyhow the EML of doom lit up so I jibbed it, fearing early signs of HF.

Oddly enough the engine said 'Ecotec' but I always thought this would be the proper 8V job, though I suspect it might well have been and just sported a later engine cover, or was on the cusp of the changeover. Anyhow to cheer myself up I went to look at some mountain bikes instead and had to virtually prise myself out of the showroom before I lobbed £2,500 at a weekend toy.

Could it be it was the 1.4 16v engine in it? They were rare on mk3s but did exist, a guy I worked with had a P reg 5door one, if it was an 8v there's no way it would've had an ecotec engine cover, they don't fit, I had a late mk3 1.6 8v SPI (Nov 97 registered) and if just said Vaxhall on the engine, same with the 1.4 8v SPi

Some late Astra F's had the X14XE Weakotec, others had the X14NZ which was the 8 valve.
