Sierra suspension refresh - what do you recommend?

Seeing everything else is running tickety-boo right now I think I will spend a few quid on a suspension refresh as lets be honest 31 years on the same shocks and springs is quite a along time and it would nice to have it all good and tight again. Now a quick ebay search throws up a load of generic unbranded shocks for less than a tenner each - probably not the way to go. ECP sell Sachs for around 20 quid a corner. Does anyone have any experience with Sachs? How are they as a brand? I've also found Monroe at around £35 each but I may be able to shop around for a better price. And the same with springs, really. What do you all use/recommend? And is there a way to just buy it all as one complete kit and save a few pounds?

Or should I just slam it on coil overs?

New gas shocks all round  but leave the springs alone otherwise it wont sit even and look odd

I used to sell Sachs Boge back in the day and never had any returns, unlike the KYB one's we also sold.

Standard height springs are perfect. Watch though... there are two types of front strut on pre-1985 models, rationalised to 1 afterwards. They are taper or flat seat. Simple to check by looking in the wheelarch. Also, one of the type has a nylon insert in the strut top. Not always necessary to refit, but check for tightness when turning during refitting, just in case. I always tried to use Monroe Sensa-Trac. on mine, Hatch or Estate, and they worked very well in all conditions. THey have a "Comfort Zone" and a "Control Zone". Not sure if they are still available.

As said nice New Gas shocks all round should do the job for you,

I have coilovers on my saph I bought them so I can set the level of the suspension, the look of the car and improve handling, it is set really subtle and to look at it you would never guess as it doesn't look like a pineapple bothering car, but rides and handles lovely

If the track control arm bushes are tired ( not uncommon) they can feel quite baggy so might be worth checking those too

if it is the case that tca bushes are worn or too much play, these are what i got for mine as the standard replacement ones available are shoite i replaced mine and the new ones were worse than the ones i removed for free play

fitting them didnt affect comfort

There were two advisories for the rear bushes so that could very well be the reason it is feeling a bit baggy. They are definitely at top of the to-do list.

Unless a spring is snapped or heaven forbid you want to go lower then surely some bush/shock treatment is all that's required. Something from my younger days tells me still today that all good shocks are yellow.
