beko1987 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Having a seriously shit day. To save me having to go up in the loft andopenabout 45 boxes... I have my MOT slip, insurance cert and...The green new keepers slip from back on 19/06/2013. Would I be ok to tax it today with that? Legally I mean, I'm fully prepared to have to talk to a jobsworth there, but as long as it's legal and I can cause a scene im ok...
FredTransit Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 did they stamp it? You are only supposed to use the green slip once warren t claim 1
Cavcraft Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 As long as it's not been used before you're ok. If there's a date on it (written in) then you're bollocksed if it's not from within the last month. Crafty use of a pen maybe fruitful if it has.Tippex is a nono.
155V6 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I tried to tax online with the green slip last month, but it wasn't having it .I phoned up DVLA & they said they could tax it over the phone straight away, but there would be a charge of £25.00.I managed to find the logbook in the end so didn't have to.
twosmoke300 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 will probably work but unless the address and name is EXACTLY the same as on the v5 it will prob add another owner to the log book.
Cavcraft Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Then name and address can be the same, in fact it's the only way it will work. It doesn't matter if the V5 is already in your name, just use the new keeper's bit to accidentally* pretend you've bought the car within the last month, ideally the last week.
beko1987 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Had a closer look at the V5 slip, and it seems to be in Campbells name, dated 2012... Not sure how I happen to have that, however I've taxed on it before, as it was in the glove box wrapped up in the mot cert and insurance cert... In 2 minds now, brave the cold and go to the PO and hope they dont notice, or find the current V5, do it online and not hand the keys back to the flat until it comes... Off to the post office!
skattrd Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If the slip you have is over a year old and has a name different to the one on the insurance cert on it then I doubt you can use that to tax it.
FredTransit Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 as cavette said. PO wont care what name is on the gree slip. Thats really what its for, a new keeper to tax the car. FYI the PO have stopped looking at the insurance now and the MOT is online so you just need the reminder/V5/green slip at the PO now.
meggersdog Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 If you've taxed on the green slip before it will flag up at the post office and you won't be able to tax it again.Only the full V5c or the reminder
HillmanImp Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I have used the green slip on a few occasions. As long as its not been stamped (i.e. used before) I have not had any bother. If its already in your name have you not got a reminder off DOOVLA? You can use the ref. on that if the V5 is A.W.O.L.
Cavcraft Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 No, they WILL care who's name is on the slip, as they won't tax it if it's in someone else's name. What they won't care about is whether it matches the 'full' V5 or not. If it's dated 2012 but not stamped then I cannot recommend that you change the date to 2013 with the careful stroke of a pen, as it's probably against some law or other. If it's in someone else's name anyhow though you're probably knackered. Maybe try one P.O and see what they say, perhaps ask them if they're allowed to accept Tippexed ones. If they say yes then do so and take it to another P.O, perhaps try telling them a previous buyer filled it in then changed his mind about buying the car.
beko1987 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 They did care that it wasnt my name! Tried to make me fill out a lost v5 form and pay £25. Told him no thanks, had a brainwave on the drive home and found my fucking car folder, with the V5... Off for a smoke and cuppa now to calm now, after I've bought fugging tax! DSdriver and warren t claim 2
Alexg Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 It doesn't matter who's name is on the new keeper slip as it's designed for just that, a new keeper. It will not need to correspond with, change or update any records. You don't need proof of insurance now either, so you could write 'Arthur Scargills sex flaps' on the name section if you so desire. beko1987 1
FredTransit Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Exactly. Thats what I meant to say but put it badly. BTW a very good mate of mine taxed something he bought with no V5 or slip (he had MOTd and insured it) but used the reciept/invoice. That astounded me too.
beko1987 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Wish I'd known that before I went, would have enjoyed a good argument with the bastard Still, 6 months time everything will be much better with this new system*
chaseracer Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Hope the sunroof's still working OK. And that dealing with the previous owner didn't dent your faith in human nature too badly...
beko1987 Posted December 27, 2013 Author Posted December 27, 2013 Sunroofs been watertight for a month now, no problems there! Haven't heard from Messerchmittowner for months now either, hope he's ok! (Didn't have to speak to him today, I just found the green slip from when he bought the car in the glovebox (shows how often I'm in there!))
