Looking for a Car W.H.Y?

With my e34 touring having a suspected blown head im looking for another car to share regular driving with the Sierra estate. I'm open to whatever it is you may be thinking of selling, though im not looking to spend a huge amount. In fact if my sierra takes your fancy im sure we would come to some kind of deal, theres a thread about it on here. I dont really need the car for commuting as such so id consider anything

As they say in ad world W.H.Y.?

You can have a sneak preview of the BX advert I plan to put up on ebay when I've driven it home again on boxing day:

When Robin Thicke sang “I know I want it†in Blurred Lines, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t talking about this car. I bought this superb piece of Gallic engineering last September when I had a broken hand and my old car died and I needed to something to get to work in in the middle of nowhere. So I thought “it’s only £300â€Â, it was only round the corner and I cleverly forgot that my past two BXs had bankrupted me and I’d made a mental note “never againâ€Â. Within a week the battery gave up the ghost, that’s £90 for a new one, thanks. Then the tax disc expired (common problem with most cars) and George Osborne took £225 from me. Then the MOT expired setting me back pocket change at £355 and a piece of paper with a long list under some header “advisoriesâ€Â, whatever that means. This also gave me CV and steering gaitors and a light bulb. They also peer pressured me into new from brake pads (wasn’t a failure area, but it needed them anyway) and I stupidly asked for welding which it didn’t need, but on the plus side the driver’s door hinge is now a little more robust and a little less rust.

The document of doom, sorry, MOT advisories list is as follows:

+ Oil leak

+ Nearside and offside front flexi brake hoses starting to perish

+ Offside front tyre is wearing on inner edge

+ Front to rear fuel pipes are heavily corroded

+ Some corrosion to underbody in places

Fortunately the previous few MOTs have far fewer advisories, my local garage I find are quite “thoroughâ€Â, I don’t know why I go there to be honest. Oh, and on the way home from the MOT the stop solenoid gave up the ghost. Cue £30 spent on two later (I accidentally dropped one down the drain whilst trying to fit it – smooth) and the engine now switches off at the key. What else would you want from a car?

Joking aside, the car does have some merits. The MOT expires 28/11/14 and tax 31/9/14 so there’s nearly a year or breaking down and swearing at the engine. It’s given me 52mpg in the only tank-to-tank I’ve done.

It has (nearly) full service history, being a company car up to 2002 or 145K miles, and thus has a comprehensive folder of servicing receipts, history print outs from the company car computer, every MOT certificate, old V5s, original bill of sale, all owner’s manuals and even a fully stamped up service book – before it ran out of pages. Needless to say, it’s been well maintained in that period.

Since then it gets a bit vaguer, with fewer receipts. In 12/2010 somebody spent £900 servicing the car (152K) fitting a new timing belt and water pump, fan belt, exhaust, "full service", front brake pads, HP pump belt and LHM flush amongst a few other sundries.

I BXclub-forum stalked the chap I bought it from and he alleges that he fitted a new radiator in 2013, and did usual DIY servicing – oil/coolant changes etc. As with every crap car purchase, I changed the oil too when I’d got it home.

The interior of the car really is superb. All of the seats are incredibly clean, looking new after 20 years of fat people sat in them. The boot and carpets are pretty good too; you even get a set of mats to keep. I took out the clock as it was broken, and the glovebox’s hinges have broken – like every BX. A lot of the dash bulbs have gone and the interior fan is on a pull switch, but works brilliantly, as does the heater, radio – all of your mod cons. That’s all of the negatives I can think of really. Oh , and the bodywork is pretty tatty. Lacquer peel on one of the wings and on the roof. This was the worst colour they came in.

Hankook tyres on the front are ok, the backs look pretty new – quality Linglong tyre and rubber company, or something. Spare is great and tools are present. I also have the parcel shelf but it isn’t pictured. You get the added bonus of three keys. The anoraks will enjoy the fact it has original dealer numberplates, too.

No real “genuine†reason for sale, I’m not even going to try and make one up. This is my third BX and it always sounds like a better idea than it really is. My past two plagued me with trivial little breakdowns, and it won’t be long before this begins doing the same.

Other than that I can't really fault the car - engine, hydraulics are great. Being a turbo and weighing nothing (plastic panels) it seriously moves. If you have beard, then this makes a superb practical classic. If you feel than baseball caps should be worn the incorrect way round, then this makes a great “retro ride†with the added benefit of one pull of the “Cool lever†– hey presto! Insta-slam. I’ve just done a flawless 500 mile Christmas trip to Yorkshire in it. If you’re a sheep rustler or antiques dealer then this could well be the car for you. I’ve finally realised that a Citroen BX will never make a lady’s underwear magically fall off, so I’ve bought myself a boring reliable little Toyota instead.

It's highly critical, but at least honest, unlike the vast majority of ads that members post on the BX forum.

It won't be a 'car wanted' advert on here without me sticking my sizeable conk in. Therefore I can offer the following:

Citroen ZX TD with Bosch pump.

Peugeot 306 TD with Bosch pump.

Probably a bit more than you want to spend, but my Lancia HPE VX is available, one day I will do a proper advert and try to more than half-ass sell it http://autoshite.com/topic/12104-autoshites-official-wantedoffered-thread/page-37?do=findComment&comment=488567

I would possibly do a deal with the ex Wuv/RobT Sierra, as I appear to be lacking an auto/estate, and drive the Lancia to Devon. The HPE has all ready been driven to Devon this year, it's been totally reliable and surprisingly economical for me.
