gold plated shite or no?

They're pretty shit. The interiors are shit and they generally feel cheap and badly made . There's only so bad it can be for that money though.

It's almost perfect shite, poor design, poor build quality, poverty spec (unless the original owner spent silly money), but to me it fails on one very important aspect. People may think that you are aspirational and for that failing, I'm out.

My they have some shite in stock.

Bloody hell you're not wrong about that.

The shitector scale has just hit 7.2 with this Nexia saloon. £320.

Fatha_Duke has an A-class, and I can confirm that 'shite' is far too kind a description. He's taken it to a Merc garage twice because it scrapes going over ...well, anything including speedbumps, draincovers and medium-size stones, and cannot negotiate the slightly uneven lane where I live. Both times, he was assured that the suspension is exactly as it should be, and they were designed to be 'low-slung' on purpose. And no, he's not massively obese either. (In his defense, he's well aware of Merc's non-existence since the 190E, and didn't actually choose the A-class himself)

my brother in law had an A class, he got rid after a fairly big bill when the alternator went - drivers seat had to come out to get it replaced

The Nexia certainly is gold plated shite : a poorly modernised second generation Astra made by a then-obscure far eastern manufacturer.

The A-class is simply shit at present, but it has futureshite potential. Characterless, bit of an image problem, awful to drive, unreliable and it even managed to fail a handling test that a Trabant can easily pass. I reckon in a decade's time we will be lusting over them.

My sister has the later one, the W169. I recommended it on the basis that they were much improved over the original ones (the interior far, far so) and it's been a good car. People do still say "ooh, you've got a Mercedes" as though it were a week old S Class.

I don't like the high driving position, and the acceleration feels agonisingly slow but that might just be me failing to get the best out of a CVT. I haven't driven it enough to get used to it.

Still, it is a nice car to travel in, the ride's nice, the seats are comfortable and I'd be happy to live with it if I were into new stuff.

I've been driving it again today, with what I wrote last night in mind. The acceleration thing was just unfamiliarity with the transmission, it's quite acceptable once you get used to it.

Those Mercs are wank. Unbelievably horrible interiors and the auto boxes are spectacularly bad. I don't know what the diesel versions are like and I hope I never find out.

I don't think I like autos in general.

Why do they move forwards when you're not pressing any pedals? Surely if you're not pressing anything they should stay still.

Crikey, that car company is a tyrannosaurus of shite. Hat off to the owner for being the most extensive seller of shite in the known (and possibly unknown) universe. Wow!

You should try a Ford Fusion semi auto, take your foot off the brake put your foot on the go pedal and they'll roll backwards or forwards until seemingly at random providing drive at 3K rpm.

Utter, utter crap.

The honda I-shit ( I -shift ) is terrible too.

It's like the gearbox has tourettes!
