The metallic green calibras with the cream leather are my favourite - very 'classy' (if a calibra can be!)

 

 

I had a gunmetal grey one from 1998 to 2004, nice car but always a sensor was knackered or the exhaust was blowing or something else stupid was playing up. It was a one owner low mileage car as well.

MY GOD! two un -modded ones! very very very rare! always makes me laugh when im out and see one because they are NEVER standard :lolI've had a few and had mixed fortunes with them... first one was on 135k and generally sloppy to drive, with lots of breakdowns although it looked mint... i think it had been driven hard and thus was just worn out.Then bought a blue one and LPG converted it - got 35k of absolutely trouble free motoring... but then (at only about 90k) it became a weekly hassle with large bits falling off left right and centre.The current one seems to be pretty good, apart from its annoying habit of only idling for so long then cutting out and the exhaust from hell...... By the way, see what i meant im my first post about everyone having an opinion on probes?? three pages so far...!

i think it had been driven hard and thus was just worn out.

When you say driven hard, like a bad thing, does that mean flogged beyond reason or merely being pushed in the fashion for which it was intended? Because I'd hate to think I was driving my car 'hard' in a way detrimental to it! I do drive fast, but does that mean I'm destroying my car?

I don't think they are "as global" as McD's, but they're certainly now a

Super-Mega-International-Corporation thing. Leading the way and

aggressively expanding (in Thailand at least).

Exactly. But equally if Sid 'n' Doris only used their Granada once a

week to do the four miles to Tesco's ussing only 2nd and 3rd, it might not

perform as it should after 135 K. (How many years would it take to get

that mileage?!) Running cold all it's life isn't good, however well they take

care of it.

 

An older car would prob'ly be at it's best having been used a few times

each week for most of it's life, and on longer runs to maximise the time

when it's running at full temp. Taking it to the red line once in a

while will do no harm once it's all warm, (likely do some good,) because

that's what it's designed to do. (Regular oil swaps etc of course.)

 

Go on Regie - treat yourself and your motor - open it up now and again!

Ritmo-san... you have an Alfa 146 ferchrissakes. You should be wringing the nuts off it at every possible opportunity. That's what you buy an Alfa FOR.... (well, it's certainly not for the comfortable driving position or strong residuals is it.)
