Charmant was from over twenty years ago, from memory it was an insurance write off, I picked up from a garage with the owner who was a son of a bloke I worked with

A lot of the older ones come from a breaker yard my dad had.

Some like the Peugeot lions come from damaged but repaired cars, I think that they were fixed with later grills with a formed lion.

I really don't see why they feel the need to change it so often.

The four small badges with Flying A's on them are clock blanking plates from Austin A40/50/55 Cambridges. The Flying A radio blanking plate is from an A55 MK2 Cambridge. Great collection!

On the subject of badges, this unlikely return of the plughole always cheers me up

I would've loved to have been old enough in the 80s rather than just born in order to go into an AR showroom and see all those small showrooms selling several different franchises all under the 1 roof, maybe if they'd realised earlier to compete with other manufacturers rather than with brands in their own stable and thus whittled their range down to 1 or 2 brands with a couple of lineups of cars instead of half a dozen Rover might still have been in existence today and doing well with class leading cars, too many cooks spoil the broth and all that.

The vauxhall griffin went from square to round in 1990 to match the shape of the Opel badge to save multiple pressings for square and round badges.

Derek Robinson spoiled the broth.

Shit me Simmo! Thats some collection. Hey, if your ever looking to rid of any 'Rover' ones, by all means do let me know.

I did the photos last year because I'd been asked for some BMC badges for one chap on here and another friend of a friend..

Since then I have put them away as I am making room for stuff coming from clearing my old man's place.

When I end up sorting through them again I'll give you a shout, must have plenty of doubles / swopsees

He's got some great ones there, Douglas aircraft tug?,  was he an airport worker or RAF ? Where is the 'Marksman' one from? (or what is a 'Marksman'?)

Posted

Yep off a Douglas tug that IIRC had a blown engine and he picked up for a scrappy he does a lot of work for, not sure about the Marksman I'll have to ask him.

Here's one for Fellington, since he's rejoined us...
