The Stupendous build thread... the best of the rest from elsewhere.

After the "scene twats" thread's unearthing of the mega Volvo build, I thought it might be worth starting a thread to show the best/most interesting threads from elsewhere that other shiters might have missed, afterall Autoshite does have a comparatively low engineering content due to its lack of a workshop forum etc.

Anyways, without further ado, the aforementioned mega-Volvo that might have been missed by some;

I'll add a couple from retrorides to boot...

Man makes mega Austin-healey;

(Also worth a gander is his car transporter build with some excellent Bdford content... http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/84662 )

Finally, last but by no means least; one mans valiant battle with rusty BL ex-plod chod. http://retrorides.proboards.com/thread/131089/1986-rover-sd1-3500se-police

So this is the modified wing of the Autoshite complex?  I can dig it.  Personally, this rattly old thing has been putting significant float under my boat.

Not only has someone saved a Talbot from certain doom, which is notable in and of itself, but they've modified it without ruining it (other opinions may vary).

Seth should pick out a picture of his Hillman that he particularly likes to add to the party as it's totally worthy of this thread.

VloVo is EPIC.... but, funnily enough, I got a nagging thought that, somewhere else, I'd seen [not the same] but a fairly out-there kinda mod session... recalled the installation of snooker-table size sheets of steel  :shock: .

..... I think it has been done before, in NZ. Something to do with the peculiar NZ 'vehicle owning' statute....

This Maserati Ghibili resto is one of my favourites ever. it has the "it can't be that bad purchase" then quickly finding out it's totally rotten followed by some really amazing metal work as he makes most of the replacement panels by hand!

Maserati's can rust??

That Maseresto thread is amazing, I was shocked to discover it was on Pissed On Neds when I first came across it.

Yes and no... if its great work and interesting, slap it up! But definitely looking for an emphasis on good engineering/tekkers that'll impress even the old farts in us that sometimes whinge at mods. (Plus one for Seth's stuff... It's modified and I like it, all; it is well done and tasteful. I'll chuck the link to it below.)

As for all the other stuff in the thread; good work team, just what I thinking. Xbol tat blog is an enjoyable way to make yourself about 3 hours older and not have a clue where the time went. I'd also forgotten about that Maserati, amazing work there.

Another one of my favourites is tonybmw's threads on RR. The quality of his repairs is just mind bloggling to a ham fisted metal basher like me. I think in this thread he does the rear subframe repair I said was a game over for BMW's and makes it looks like a peice of piss (it isn't.)

Seamless, I mean how's that even possible?

Restoration of campervan on RR.

Fellah pulled it out of a field and towed it home with (I think) a Fiat Uno.

Can't remember his name or find the thread. :oops:

No doubt that tonybmw has talent. Once that's painted over, you'd never know it was fresh metal. Bloody impressive.

U. R. RONG.... it was a FIAT Punto ;) This the one you were thinking of?

A side note, I remember a huge saga involving a FIAT camper a few years ago, needless to save, it was as rotten as a pear and totally beyond it but was subject to a severe amount of love and patience.

Was looking through Tonybmw's other work... My lord it is amazing, the metalwork on this thread is immense. This particular Victor isn't finished  but the work on show is mindblowing. Give him enough time and steel and he could make you anything!

It's Vin who did that fiat camper .... and a rare Fiat 850 (IIRC?) coupe.  How is that one going?

The blue side has some really top work going on, I stop going on it for a while after the ReadersRides section got clogged up with modern rubbish as opposed to old tat... Happily these days, the balance is good again. As for that Granada, anyone who looks at Topgear's latest plaything an decides that it's powertrain would work in an old Ford is a great shade of mad.

If shiters will excuse me for this... I know it isn't a car, and I promise I won't do it again, but it does have an engine and some serious engineering/hardwork behind it.  http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?10960-M4A4-restoration
