chevy caprice with a de-catted and uprated 305 v8. I loved this car. stupidly got rid of it because of gearbox issues (probably only wanted flushing) but it was a bit rough.

Picture049.jpg

cadillac seville bustleback. lovely interior, the 350 diesel engine was a total boat anchor. WTF were they thinking?

ford_zps3cb04c5d.jpg

1976 F150 with a 351 V8.  faster accelerating than my brother's 205 GTi. only 14mpg but that goes with the territory. It had massive wheels and tyres which made it frightening to try and keep in a straight line on the motorway. body was rough, it got engine raped for a cobra replica by the guy I sold it to.

My mate's got a pristine  '64 cad fleetwood, but then he's a bachelor and can afford indulgences like that.

I had a 1998 Chevy Caprice Classic   when I lived in Kuwait. It was white, naturally.

I was really close to buying a Mercury Monarch a few years ago. Bud didn't. Sorry.

Never had the bottle to go though with yank ownership.

Does it count if it was while living in the US?

Had a Dodge Durrango, Jeep Wrangler and Hummer H3.   Also had a Hyundai Elantra and a Scooby Outback over there - cheap but dull!!

The Caprice put me off, but it's perhaps not representative of all yank shite.

Didn't keep it long, ended up going down to Cornwall and it has been back on the bay since IIRC.

After having worked for Pink Floyd as a stage-builder..aged 21...in Phoenix -Arizona..I talked my mate into going halves in a 1973 Cadillac Coupe de Ville for $500.It broke down constantly until we managed to sell it to some  [other] homeless guys in New Orleans for $100 just so we could get the fuck out a dodge..

After experiencing the joys of Yank Shite ownership in the late '90's by having daily use of a mate's 1979 Firebird Trans Am complete with huge eagle decal on the bonnet, I decided I must own my own Yank muscle.

So I got this, a 1985 Camaro IROC-Z with the 305 cubic inch V8 and multi-point fuel injection.

I was hooked !

So come my 40th birthday in 2003 I treated myself to this, a 1994 Camaro Z28 Auto, this time with the 350 ci V8. So much more modern and a brilliant everyday car even though I was commuting 50 miles a day back then.

Then I got the chance to buy a slightly later (1996) Z28, this one having the same LT1 V8 engine but mated to the 6-speed manual gearbox.

Didn't keep this one too long after an off-road excursion through a hedge but I am stil  determined to have another Yank, probably the slightly later facelifted Gen 4 Camaro with the all alloy LS1 Corvette engine in SS guise.

back in 89 i had a 76 350 auto firebird, then in 04 i had an 82 F350 S6 300 3spd auto on lpg, would do low 20's on gas being ex usaf it had the big steel push board on the frt was great for playing chicken with arrogant minicabs (never lost).

only had 46 k on clock & very reliable, allways regret not buying another with 17k on it ex tug so would have made a goodun once stretch back to std wheelbase had 4 spd auto £800 !

I keep promising myself another yank barge, sadly prices for my era of choice are now out of my reach. you just don't get cheap land yachts any more (all mine were under a grand)

Is the last model crown vic/grand marquis any good? the one beloved of new york taxi firms and US law enforcement? there seem to be quite a few over here.

I believe it was used as an engine donor for a 55 Chevy- 305 with a Carter carb,

First owner was seemingly in Coronation St, and is on Radio 2 now?
