2004 S320CDi sale help

My dad is thinking of selling his car, to downsize. As long as the dog will go in the boot, he's happy.

I have recommended a DCi Clio. (Never mind than for now.)

I am wondering if any of these we buy your car sites are worthwhile? Just to save the hassle of advertising it. As I assume it may be difficult to shift with it being perceived as a 'gas guzzler'.

WBAC just offered me £2645. An identical spec car is up for £6K on ebay, so if he could get around £4K or so he would get shot if it meant a hassle-free transaction.

Is WBAC a good inidication of what the others will offer or are they taking the piss?

I am reluctant to enter my details into loads of these sites if it's a waste of time.

May not be many examples of your car, but I always check the Advanced Search within ebay.

Put the car in and select "sold" listings.

Gives you a good idea of prices, and you can also check the original advert for spec etc.

Cheers

That seems an extremely low ball offer. I guess these things are so complex they just make a "can't go wrong if we buy it for this money" offer.

54 Plate at 100,000 miles is £3945 CAP Average, £6095 CAP Retail. I usually thing somewhere inbetween is a good for a private sales so £4995? £4495 for a quick sale?

If it's done 200,000 miles it's obviously a different story.

Cheers all, especially Cort.

It's a 53 plate. Maybe it's a 2003. Unsure atm. Around 135K miles. Pretty sure it's got full history (main dealer and independent), upgraded wheels (those 5 spoke 18's) and a soft-close boot, keyless start.

Think that's it. I am not sure what is standard on them.

It's a facelifted one too (larger COMAND screen etc.) and that used to make quite a difference in terms of desirability.

It has a few light scratches and some surface rust creeping in at the bottoms of the wings. I guess most will. It's still in the very early stages though. I just replaced one of the airmatic dampers for a reconditioned original part, last month.

I guess around the four grand mark may be about right then. BTW, what's CAP mean?

CAP is a company that most of the motor trade use to value their cars

If it's a 53 it maybe pre facelift and with mileage and the odd bit of rust maybe £3995 is where I'd start.

If you want to PM me the reg no I'll do a valuation on it.

Ta mate.

Is definitley a facelifted one. I think it's a good time to get rid, before it needs panels painting. Especially when he doesn't care about cars really.

Will PM you now.

Big thanks to cort16 for his assistance via PM. 8)

I suspect Cort16 has already done this but if not there's a few members on here in the trade, find one which has access to a Glasses guide black book, this is the bible to all car dealers, it's gives the monthly's trade in values and it's what all garages go by, find out what the book says it's worth at trade then that will gives you an idea what a garage would offer you in a trade in.

CAP is God. All you need is bottom auction valuation and then throw into the ring with that figure as reserve, assuing you're happy with it.

WBAC? If you haven't done your homework on them then nobody on here can help you.

Hi id try it on Autotrader, this is were I used to sell most of my stock when I was a car trader. I used to price them about middle range of other peoples adds so they would sell. Most cars would sell in less than a week and Mercs are good sellers if priced ok.

This is so extraordinarily hideous I really am (literally) unable to believe it

I'm strangely drawn to this, but then I was dropped on my head when I were a young child.

Cheers trigger. You're right, he has.

Hopefully it will shift privately. Cars lose enough money as it is, without having some dealer take the piss.

I am aware they are bellends. Some people managed to get reasonable prices from them though.

It's not unheard of. On this forum someone mentioned flogging them a motor for about 100 quid less than they wanted to sell privately for.

I have no experience with the other similar companies though. Hence the wondering.

Sounds a plan, mate. Will hopefully cut down on the amount of mongoloids, too. Cheers.

Me and my ex bought a 307SW off her parents for the same as a dealer was offering part ex against a 308. As it was a horrible car in every way, I went on WBAC and was pleasantly surprised to find they'd give us £250 more than we'd just paid.

She liked the car though so it had to stay.

So I dumped her.

I've been looking at these S Classes lately as they're into VERY attractive money. Early T, V, X plate cars can be got for little over £1k. I've only been looking at the S430, but the amount of non-runners with suspension faults and electrical gremlins scares the shite out of even me! I have no doubt I'll give one a go soon but I have a feeling it'll make a Vel Satis seem as simple as a Metro.

This one has been no bother, aside from regular servicing, it's had an upper control arm and airmatic damper, front pads and it sometimes likes to tell you the side lights are out. Despite it being fitted with CAN-compatible LED bulbs.

Oh yeah, it also has a taste for tyres. 256/48/18 on the rear. Shared with 911, F355 etc.

New ones are heart-stoppingly expensive. Part-worns ftw.

Know what you mean about the first of the W220's. They are practically being given away.

I say get one. So much car for the money if you get a decent spec. Double glazing ffs. In a car?

That we can afford? :D

I know loads have airmatic faults with varying degrees of seriousness and <2003 cars are known to have electrical woes. As they are from a time of a different supplier, iirc.

The 'boxes are only 4 speed too. This surprised me. Still, whack it into semi-auto and it will move for a big old bus.

As the A4 Avant TDi today would testify. #financemong
