The Return Of the Oltcit

All summer I have not used the Oltcit because the starter would not engage, my fear as it had a reconditioned starter from Chevronics last year and has hardly done any miles was that the ring gear was worn. This afternoon I took advantage of our better weather and went to take the motor off just in case there was something wrong with it but found it was loose. I tightened the two bolts and it engages perfectly and the Oltcit starts fine. The starter motor was changed by a professional mechanic.

You've had this for sale haven't you?  No takers then?

I stopped trying to sell it, when it would not start. I am easy now, because I have too many cars I would let it go but will not advertising it. I have now booked it indoor storage for the winter and am looking forward to a few shows in the spring with it.

The starter motor was changed by a professional mechanic.

Do a pleasant review of his handiwork, name the garage. I've had plumbers round not doing work correctly to create future 'jobs', now I politely look over their shoulder.

The Oltcit failed in my friend’s barn 30 miles away and my friend arranged for his Mobile Mechanic to sort it out. I never met him and I can’t remember what I paid but it is disappointing after just a few miles to find it loose. The relief yesterday that I did not have to change the ring gear or change the engine with tremendous.

Further news from the Oltcit Owners' Club UK...

 

I've just wafted back from Wroclaw in mine – 1600km at a steady 4500rpm. It'll be a fabulous little car after a little autistic fettling.

How about at Shitefest '14? It's in Wales, so the cold and miserable could well happen! I really do like these. In many ways, a rebellion on Citroen's part. Peugeot say "no, you may not make this car. It's too silly. Here, have this Peugeot floorpan and make a car on that instead." Citroen's response was to send the entire design to Romania and build it there instead.

I am definitely up for an Oltcit meeting 2014. Maybe Wales although there had been talk of uniting the groups Biturbo's at that meeting.

Are any of you fellas on the visa forum? There was a fella - cleggAx who had a set of KN Jupiter alloys for sale donkeys ages ago. Just in case you knew of him. I'd like to get the rims for the samba rallye if they were still available. Ta.

Not as yet. I do need quite a few bits, though - not least a pair of driveshafts - so I'll have to find such a contact. I'll report back.

I have been on the Visa forum and while clegg AX is still a member he has not been on the forum since July 2010 when he advertised the wheels. I have pm him and I will ask our Head Master if he knows him but it does not look likely.
