Air con on the Stag is £437... What does the inflation calculator have to say about that?

"If you want to compare the value of a £437.46 Commodity in 1974 there are three choices. In 2011 the relative:

real price of that commodity is £3,741.00

labour value of that commodity is £5,825.00

income value of that commodity is £6,951.00"

Whoa

These take me back, they could be from my grandads desk in 1974. I remember how he kept those '73 oil crisis ration books for years,I suppose because his generation remembered when petrol was actually rationed. He was also a serial Triumph buyer from Standard Flying 9 through Heralds,1300,1500 to a brown 2000 auto, can't believe he could have got a TR6 cheaper! Although there would be nowhere to put his hat,he was considering an Acclaim just before he shuffled off. Almost glad he didn't see the collapse of Leyland.

Thanks for posting this, think I've got something in my eye though.

What an amazing find!

I didn't realise these 'Motor fuel ration books" were from the 'Seventies oil crisis - I'd presumed it was from Suez.

I found one in my grandfather's things when he died. His is for a car 2201cc/20HP and over - so if you had a gas guzzler, the government let you have more petrol! He had a Rover 3500 at that time.
