Walkie-Talkie skyscraper - designed by ants bent on revenge?

Yeah. I remember the piles of rust after the 362 days of rain we get per year :)

Plastic melts. Metal rusts. We must find something to make cars from.... how about glass? Rubber!

I think the solution has been hidden in plain view for decades.

^Bit like a Trabant then? Apparently those panels were made from pretty much whatever was available, albeit usually recycled rather than grown for the purpose.

The Trabant body panels were made from a composite material called 'Duroplast'. This material was consistently used throughout production.

It is a fiber reinforced plastic not unlike fiberglass, but instead of glass fibers, they used cotton fibers. Yes, it was made of recycled materials, cotton waste and phenol resins, a very smart concept. It was then recycled again when the Trabbi got scrapped by grinding it and mixing it with cement to make pavement flags or other decorative concrete structures, like kerbstones, or balcony balustrades, etc.

Duroplast is very light and strong, again, not unlike fiberglass, but being a thermosetting plastic, it had the disadvantage that the panels needed to be 'baked' to cure, which severely slowed down production, hence those ridiculously long waiting lists ensued.

In any case, it won't melt like a fuggin newfangled Jag does in fuggin London of all places. It'll more likely kindle.

"On the windscreen, there was a note from the construction company saying 'your car's buckled, could you give us a call"

Priceless. Not 'Sorry, Pavel dropped a stillage of scaffolding poles on your car' or 'Sorry, Big Dave reversed a road roller over your car'. It's buckled. Methinks they were hiding the giant magnifying glass at that point.

The really disturbing bit is that replacing a few newfangled shitty Chinese plastic bits amounts to £946. More than my two latest cars and moped cost combined.

yeah I did think of popping down there and stratigicaly positioning me Mk2 tranny then sending em a big bill. Problem is theres so little to melt on it!

It's art. It was made by a group of totally normal people who call themselves

They are Australian and they installed that sculpture in Bondi Beach, New South Wales.

It's made out of painted fiberglass.
