Scotoshite Day out

Recommended Posts

Right I'm just throwing this one out there to see how much interest it gathers.

It has been mentioned on many an occasion, by the Scotoshite Committee, to have a wee day trip somewhere and as the summer is somewhat here then perhaps it should be talked about further.

My thinking would be to replace the July 31st meet with a day trip someplace that weekend (August 3rd or 4th).

Where? Who knows. This is discussable.

So.....Discuss.

There's a committee???? :-P

Up for it if "my driver" is.......

When I say Committee....

umm

Let's just say...The Regulars. Lol

Falkirk wheel? Quite a good backdrop for photographing old Volvos I'd have thought.

Certainly one for the list of ideas. I was thinking perhaps stopping a few places for photo shoots and ending somewhere like a realy crap, old holiday "destination". Like Anstruther or something of that ilk.

I'm regular.....I have a bowl of all-bran every morning..........

I'd be up for a nice wee potter about the countryside. Have Bru + fags, will travel.

I'd be wary of heading for Ainster, the chances of getting parked there on a summer weekend will be slimmer than Kate Moss on the Taliban hostage diet.

Besides, that's the East Neuk; anybody who's obviously an outsider stands a chance of being accused of witchcraft.

Hmm. Point taken on Ainster. There's still time yet so let's see what idea folk come up with.

Can we not get cars into East Fortune?.............Small 5 seat 80's shite V Large 150 seat 60's shite.

Would make good photos........

The East Neuk has changed beyond recognition in recent times, it's populated almost exclusively by people like this now

.

I'd be up for East Fortune or that industrial museum place near Prestonpans.

I had been going to suggest Myreton Motor Museum http://www.ipernity.com/doc/287597/album/394103 and The Museum of Flight as a potential day out, as they are quite close together. The industrial museum is a good call too, as I recall there are some nice shonky 1960s buildings we could park outside.

The industrial museum's biggest advantage is that it is free while Myreton and the Museum of Flight both have an entry charge.

I'm up for a day trip with fellow Scotoshiters. Not bothered about destination, although a slightly disappointing former holiday destination as a final stop sounds great.

Posted

If you do go for a day out somewhere scenic I may be tempted to pop along as shitefest seems like it may not be happening.

Posted

Sounds good........... not bothered where but quite happy for a wee change of scenery. May be worthwhile sorting out a farcebook page for ppl too so we can get a few more folk onboard.

Posted

this sounds like a good idea, but ideally somewhere quite close to me, within 100 miles away is fine. i will need to start on my car soon

Posted

can i suggest a trip to any of the places in my autoshite heaven thread?

Same here. Given how heroic you Scottish lot are at attending meets down in Englandcestershire, us soft southerners really should make the effort to get north of the border (or two borders in my case). I just might be up for a silly road trip depending on when and where. (probs not in the 2CV though).

Posted

Mr Wobbler raises a valid point. If we could get some England to come up north then we could arrange for a shit day out somewhere in border country rather than even further north. Perhaps start in Gretna, working north to Glasgow or Edinboghorror along the old shitty A and B roads finding various places to stop for photo ops and bletherings. If we're doing the idea of ending up in some depressing shit hole of an old holiday resort, why not do Gretna - Stranraer - Ayr / Troon / Saltcoats?

I still like the idea of last week in July / first weekend in August (week commencing 29th July) for the sole reason it's my holibobs from work.

Posted

I'd be up for this, although my journey wouldn't be anywhere near as heroic as Dollywobbler's - I'd be coming from Cumbria which is almost Scotland, really.

Anywhere in the South West/Borders/Central belt should be do-able for me.

I'd somewhat forgotten about this. It's nearly time. I'm going to take a punt at Sat 2nd August for a wee jolly someplace so suggestions would be welcome. I was thinking meeting somewhere in the west of Glasgow and heading to Largs and then either going to Millport or head further down coast to the shiter holidays destinations of yore, finishing up with some dinner somewhere really nice* like Troon or Ayr.

Thoughts?

Or shall we just do normal last-wednesday-of-the-month at Cumbernauld? Or Both?

A trip down the coast sounds nice, if I can afford such a jolly. If the vote is in favour of Scumbernauld then that's alright too

Did you mean Sat 3rd August? I should be able to manage that. A tour of faded resorts sounds good

Cant do that weekend as we have steph!

Sorry bud, get her every fortnight.

Sat 3rd, yes. Apologies

Ok, Wednesday meet is on for this week!

As for the run out it seems we are divided. I cannot do this Saturday but could do Saturday 10th. This could be discussed at Broadwood on Wednesday and if you cant make it then just post your suggestions on here or PM me (here or FB). Hopefully we will get something sorted. Ta, Hazel

I'm not seeing much interest on this between comments here and on the regular Scotoshite thread so I think we shall just have to ditch the idea for this Saturday. Like Hazel says, discussions at Scotoshite dinner on Wednesday can be had
