Are you going to buy a bit of engine every month like you do with those monthly magazine's where you build a replica of Lionel Ritchie's heads in 24 monthly installment's?

I guess you can still get arches repair kits and sills from factors for these?

Nope going to buy complete YB engine and loom next year some time for around £2000, the rest of the car will be finished by then it is looking like.

 

If I'm feeling frivolous I may buy something a bit more expensive with more power.

 

I can get everything I need to complete this a piece of piss, unlike say my Sambas where the parts simply don't exist anymore

 

tooSavy I could use a standard Ford Sierra shell and only I would know that is wasn't a proper Cosworth merely a replica and for that reason alone I wouldn't waste my time with it. I like rust, I don't like replicas.

 

In other news a shell has become available for £1000 that does not need paint or welding.. but I'm going to finish mine, maybe in the future  I will build all the parts into a better shell who knows. At the minute I'm happy with it, and it's not a bad shell at all by my standards you've seen the Samba Roller, and the green Polonez right?!

You might as well plug away at this. I imagine you'll be able to pickup all the parts you need reasonably cheaply the engines the expensive bit.

Yeah 2wd, I need a 7.5" rear diff and a prop shaft too at some point. My mate's just got a 2.8 4x4 in so I "could" stick the V6, loom and running gear on mine as a temporary measure and get it on the road for about another £500 but that could be better spent on finding the correct parts. I want it as it's meant to be.

 

The 4x4 diff here is 7":

No diff either? You've got a big shopping list. Did the shell get any extra bracing or is it just the same as a 1.8D?

the parts are readily available, the only thing in your way is cosworth tax on parts lol

 

cort 16 the 2wd shells are the same as standard models its only the 4wd shells that were different

Not sure if I just reported this by mistake but have you got a link? I am a member of Passion Ford but haven't seen anything that stood out, a cheap complete car IMO would be around £2000..... Going price is about £3000 but they sell quick as they break for so much money.

 

Mine will be a bloody nice car when it's finished and I will know it inside and out :)

what you want is a granada LSD

 

you need to speak to scaryoldcortina he has a few bits you need, including the diff.

Is the Granada diff  and  the 7.5" 2wd Cosworth diff the same then? I've a few available but the funds are tied up in a Corsa at the minute and getting the MG fixed again will take priority.... couldn't miss the interior though, it was way too good.

problem is with the drive flanges of the grandad diff they are 100mm the same as non cosworth sierras with bolt on shafts, whereas the cosworth are a 108mm so only a 2wd cosworth diff will actually mate up with cosworth driveshafts and hubs

....and rear driveshafts is something I have on my kitchen surface along with rear calipers, rear springs and disks and now a set of clocks with 170mph on them.... now there's a target if ever I saw one!

 

EDIT Just checked and they are 107mm

i forgot to say samba dont buy a 4wd cosworth rear diff either these have the 100mm drive flanges, 

 

170 is a target, i have been in one as a passenger that has gone past the 170 mark, thank god it was an rs500 and it had that huge wing nailing it to the ground and it had good brakes which filled the 17"compomotives and nice grippy tyres lol

Once it's on the road I will be able to use it and upgrade everything as and when... I'd like the underside painting eventually and all the bits and bobs powdercoating, hubs, rear beam etc

 

But that's all a long way off

Mine was timed at Bruntingthorpe at 186 mph. Give 'em enough power and they're capable of daft things.

So the Cossie is still sat on axle stands waiting for me to find a suitable set of front shocks. The owner wanted his AVOs back and we only fitted them to get it on the recovery truck.

 

I have had a welder come take a look and he has agreed once its mobile we'll take it up to his unit and he will do all the welding for an estimated £200 but did say once he starts poking around more will appear. (I just hope it's not another Opel Monza weldathon).

 

I will leave the rear arches for the time being as that will be a bloody expensive job in itself as it has to be spot on.

 

Then the seats and dash can go in and it will start to feel and look more like a car again :)

I watched the vid and can only assume that the car they used had been stood outside for long periods to have that amount of rot - the boot floor had mk 5 cortina levels of rot.

 

I think the thing to bear in mind is that the youngest car is now 21 years old - I would sooner have something with high mileage that something covered in patches and schutz.

 

A couple of my mates had cossies - they are epic and deffo on my to do list.

I will have to talk it through with whoever does the work for me, but that's some time in the future, probably even after I put it in for MOT, I know it's possible to get panels on eBay but haven't seen any proper Ford ones.

 

One thing I could use is all the screws and fixings that hold the dashboard and trim on... because none came with my parts haul last month.

Bit of an update on the CosCos as you can see it has left my signature and is with my best mate of 25 years so still in the family really.

 

Same fella who quoted me did all the welding, just shy of a grand.

He very nearly opted for white. He'll probably ruin it with a shit set of wheels after all the hard work is done. There is talk of a Volvo engine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed it gets a YB.
