TagoraSX Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 I wasn't looking for another but I was contacted last week by someone who replied to a wanted ad I had forgotten to remove. It turned out the car was only 30 minutes up the road so I went for a look, and ended up buying it. No epic collection antics unfortunately. It's a 1974 with 38,000 on the clock. It is currently "Sundance Yellow" but according to the chassis plate it was originally "Sunflower Yellow" It runs and drives surprisingly well considering it has been AWOL since 1999 and everything seems to work. It also has overdrive which my 1972 GLS does not. I think it looks shit hot with the black vinyl roof and black interior. As with any 39 year old car it is not without issues. I haven't done too much poking around yet but I am expecting to find some nasty surprises as thebody does look a little "wobbed up" in places and it has had several coats of paint. I had a quick look underneath the rear and the spring hangers are toast, I decided not to go any further forward tonight! At the moment the plan is to restore both cars to a high standard and sell one, it won't be an easy choice!
Partridge Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 That’s just a little bit nice. Maybe it’s the beer, but I like that a lot.
barrett Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 Is that your garage? ffs. Why isn't it BRIMMING with cars? No way I could have a space like that without instantly filling it with bilge
maxustaxus Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 God that was lucky....wait five years for a GLS and two turn up in 8 months!
eddyramrod Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 That’s just a little bit nice. Maybe it’s the beer, but I like that a lot. I like that a lot, without beer! (Teetotal) It might even be nice enough to overcome my aversion to yellow cars!
garethj Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That looks fantastic! It might be a bit scruffy but most of these were scrapped 25 years ago so don't be too hard on it
Cavcraft Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 That's lovely and the colour really suits it. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a nightmare for you, keep us posted on the restoration please.
meggersdog Posted May 5, 2013 Posted May 5, 2013 Really nice car.Ever since being driven in the boss from my Saturday job's one (around 1980) I've liked these.I thought all the GLs cars were fitted with overdrive but I must be mistaken.
406V6 Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 That garage looks fantastic. More like an art gallery waiting for the pictures to be put on the walls than the usual oil-stained dark shed. The Hunter looks great. Shame about the car next to it.
dollywobbler Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Great stuff. There was a shabby GLS (rolling resto by the look of it) at the Llandudno show yesterday. That yellow one looks superb. I also commend your restraint if you've got that much under cover storage.
TagoraSX Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 In my defence there was another car in there, and 5 more will join them when they actually work.
