Shite of Longbridge - 13th April

We're only a couple of weeks away from Pride of Longbridge, taking place near the factory in Birmingham on Saturday 13 April.

If you've not been before, it's a bit of a corker. Loads of cars that most people regard as rubbish.

Here are some pictures I stole from FlickR, as I don't seem to have any of my own online.

Basically, it's a field full of WIN. Anything relating to BMC/BL/MG Rover is welcome, so I shall be parking outside in my BX estate. Free entry but there are charity buckets as it raises funds for those affected by the demise of MG Rover.

An ideal place for a shite meet up - I met Captain Slow, Lord Sterling, RobT and probably others I've forgotten last year, and enjoyed being chauffeured around the field in LS's Sterling. Lovely.

If I can, I'll be tootling to this, I reckon Captain Slow would be most displeased if I didn't make it. Won't be in the Princess, which is disappointing.

I will attempt to rock along in my shagged out old Rangeyshed. I would love to bring my dad, who worked at Longbridge and other assorte BL shite emporia on much of this old shite, so that you could all personally abuse him for inflicting such massive motoring misery on the hapless public at large, but he is too old and infirm. Otherwise, he'd be there to laugh it all off.

Gutted I can't get the day off of work for this years. It's an excellent event.

I reckon I'll trundle up to this at some point. Sadly I wont be in my lovely Mk1 Sterling as its decided to detonate its own engine for no reason I can think of. I'll most probably turn up in the free KV6, if I ever get it back :?

I wandered round this last year and completely failed to meet anyone off here, hopefully I can do better this year

I know what you look like this time Mr Catsinthewelder! Is the 1100 up and running again yet?

Unfortunately not :(

Idleness, weather and shift changes at work have conspired against me. Hopefully I'll have it going in time for Chodley/Northwich if the engine lift goes ok.

It was good to see your mk1 estate last year 8)

Aye. Was it's first major outing last year, en route to the X Rally the following day. Bit of a different experience this year in my rather tidying turbo diesel estate!

I would love to go to this, my only problem is I have no mates into old shite like me. My mate's drive jap stuff, road legal track cars and modern bland crap. No one would be into this so I have no one to share fuel costs with :(

Things are a bit sucky right now and *might* resolve themselves, but every time I've hoped/been assured of a resolution things have gone tits up so I've taken the painful decision to duck out of ALL car show commitments now, certainly any due to happen as soon as this one.

Should be popping up to this, although will be parking the F**d outside for obvious reasons. What time does it start - do you have to be there particularly early?

Posted

Not sure what time it starts but people start arriving fairly early I think. I got there about half ten last year. Parked up outside and strolled in. Had to nip out to grab some parts from a friend who lives very close there, and managed to blag a parking spot inside the park later on.

Was really up for bringing the 75 up to this but bloody work has got in the way again. Bring on 2014!

Posted

Do you know what I might come along to this. Can you get a pint on-site?

Posted

Tempted to come along to this if I haven't got anything else on that day. Looks like a good event.

I can't remember if there was a bar last year, plenty of coffee and ice cream stands though.

For us locals it's certainly worth calling in at, being as it's free you can wander off after half an hour if it chucks it down without that nagging sensation that you've wasted the entrance money :)

I shall be dragging the kids round again as Ms C is off doing something.

edit, heres the thread from last year to save anyone else searching for it viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13584&hilit=pride+longbridge&start=30
