Looks in nice nick too. These are on the verge of disappearing altogether nowadays, which is a shame.

I'd be on that like a tramp on chips, I do like a nice calibra I've always liked the shape

Had it out for another drive today and its defintiely growing on me. Averaged 20.1 mpg so far, although thats included a load of short runs and some mild hooning.

Losing a bit of water, so need to get that addressed, previous owner suspected the coolant bridge between the 2 banks of cylinders so will be looking there 1st.

Other than that, a full re-bush will be carried out when time and funds permit as i'm getting the clunk over bumps etc.

A quick picture of it looking a bit frosty 1st thing this morning.

"Mate" of mine had an SE9 - red with black leather, 2.5 V6 and BBS wheels. It was a very nice car, well looked after and never let him down. There's now an R plate identical model appeared not far up the road from me, might even be the same one (can't remember his reg). Bit of an image problem perhaps but they seem to be OK if kept in good nick, it's when they look tired they start to be a bit council.

This one looks an absolute pearl!

It's in pretty good nick, had it up on the 4 post lift yesterday and no grot underneath.

Couple of dings in the bodywork and some damage on the boot lid where a spoiler was removed have spoiled it a bit.

I've got a spoiler to go on the boot lid if I want, but am tempted to try a bit of filling and painting on the boot lid, with the plan that if I make a mess of it, the spoiler will hide it.

That's bargainacious for £500, hope you get the water leak sorted out and it proves to be something simple.

I am having lustful thoughts about a V6 coupe as well, although Pininfarina penned in my case :) .

One week on and over 500 miles driven, this car is growing on me and i'm getting used to it.

Had it out on a 300 mile round trip to Lincolnshire this weekend.

The fuel consumption appears on the high side, a 60mph 300 mile motorway run, driving like a vicar has yielded 26mpg (on the computer) or 25mpg (calculated on brim to brim tankful)

I would have expected low to mid 30's for this run. The tailpipes are also very sooty, which they weren't when I first picked the car up. I'm suspecting lambda sensor from doing a bit of internet research, but wondered if anyone with more knowledge / experience wished to comment on this?

I'm not greatly fussed about consumption as the car was bought purely as a toy, but obviously want to get the best I can out of it.

Had a few Corrado VR6's and best I ever saw on that was around 27mpg. :)

(they don't like going slow is my excuse).

Forgot to add that my excuse for driving slowly was that I was convoying with someone in a disco towing a big trailer - otherwise it would have had more of a thrash ....

Will try and swap the sensor before coniston on Sunday and see if that changes anything

My mate got close to 40mpg out of his V6 calibra on steady motorway runs, he's a bit of a MPG dweeb as well so i reckon that would be a genuine number not a made up one.

Had a text from interlink to say my new lambda sensor has been delivered.

If I don't need to put the car on the ramps to get to it I'll fit it tonight otherwise it'll have to wait till Saturday to do it in the workshop.

Not sure exactly where it sits on the cally, hope its on the downpipe in the engine bay, but gut feeling says it right underneath near the cat.

Update to follow.......

The ex Pete-M Senator 24v auto gets between 32 and 36mpg on motorway runs; averaged 36.8 on the cruise back from Liverpool to Glasgow at 75-ish. Would expect slightly better from a Calibra.

32-36 is what I would have expected. See what the Lambda sensor does.

The fact that the tailpipes were coated with soot suggests rich running

Lambda Sensor fitted.

Quick 30 mile round trip to Burnley & back over the tops is now showing 33mpg on the computer - **result**

Couldn't be bothered driving to the workshop to put the car on the 4 poster lift, so had to use a makeshift ramp (Half of a broken yorkshire stone trough) This allowed just enough clearance for me to crawl under the car and change the sensor.

Shame about that but at least you managed to work out what the problem was. Didn't know there was a secret Calibra society within Autoshite!
