That could actually be interesting. Does it fit the spec? Can you show me a photo of it with the doors open so i can judge the sill height? Or better, can you bring it Sunday?

It'd fit you to a tee other than the fact that it's manual. I'd of taken a part ex as well...

it's manual.

Now he tells me! :( I was getting all excited there too. Oh well, the quest resumes....

Forester was mentioned, several pages ago, but I didn't give it much attention. I've looked at the pics for this one though. It's certainly close enough, and a price I'd be prepared to pay, but... there seems to be a significant sill between the floor and the door bottom. That is one of the problems we're up against. Mrs R needs clear level access. Shame that, I reckon I could have lived with it very happily.

Lots of cars are too low, obviously. Many are too high, such as Range Rover, Disco, Shogun. Then there's the sill issue. And those are just the Mrs R requirements! After these, we come up on mine! Large petrol engine, auto box, good colour. Oh yeah, and the legalities, like MoT and tax. Dunnarf narrow the field!

This any use Eddie?

It was outside the Texaco station on the A595 at Holmrook today, where the LPG kit will be of negligible use to anyone, as the nearest place you can buy it is nearly 40 miles away*. It's no doubt got a bit of a step at the sill, and the price made me wince, but I thought it might just be a possibility for you .....

Exsqueeze me? How much? And WTF is Sports Switch Taxation Glass?

Auto and RWD though, with 2.2 throbbing litres of The General's finest under the bonnet. Worth a look?

* Going well out of your way for cheaper fuel would, of course, negate much of the benefit.

Thank ye kindly sir! Let's see, large petrol engine: check. RWD: check. Automatic: check. Bonus towbar: check.

Unfortunately: grey; and too low regardless of sill. And, er, price????????????

But, thanks for remembering me. Something will turn up.

I am looking at Rav4s, yes... thank you. There are too many factors against that particular one but in general, they are still in the running.

Black

Not enough doors

Too far away

Prefer a bit younger (say W/X prefix)

But thank you :D

I looked at a Forester this afternoon and as I suspected, there's way toomuch sill forMrs R to drag her leg over. Shame that, as I quite fancied one of those. Never mind. I got a shufti at a Rav4 and a Picnic too, both of which seem to have very suitable sills. So the list of candidates expands....

Just found this on Gumtree, is anyone available to give it a coat of looking-over for me please?

Really expensive on parts, if I remember correctly.

These are nice cars:

I had one myself for a while. The Mrs loved it.

If the engine rattles on startup, walk away. Timing chain guides are fubar.

Plugs very hard to get at, but do-able. Platinum plugs are best, you don't have to touch them for 30k.

Really nice wafty torquey motor though.

I may be wrong, but I think the engine is a bored out Cologne.

Wrong colour, or something equally petty.

Thanks for that. Which other elements of someone else's life would you care to grade in order of importance? It takes a heck of a lot for me to call someone else "Arsehole" but this is the point we've reached.

ON topic: thanks Dave for the find; that one isn't a colour I would choose to live with so it's on my list but not very high. (Colour doesn't matter much if you intend to punt something on, but if you propose to keep it a few years you really want something that isn't going to revolt you every time you look at it. Unless you're a masochist.) I did look at an Explorer some years ago and liked it. I take the servicing points, and knew about the rattle (that one did; I got back in my Volvo and wafted). It appears to have the right level of sill, but before I bid on one I'd want Mrs R to try herself in to check the height (it wouldn't have to be the one in question).

I lobbed a link on your Facebook of one of these. No good to you?

Isn't expecting strangers to do a full AA check of vehicles for you a bit arsehole-ish?

You really need to look at these vehicles in person if you're so picky.

Thanks Dave, and Mark. Dave, that's on my watch list; I think it's the only petrol Sedona on the bay just now. Mark, I looked at that, but I hear stories about those that don't fill me with confidence. Oh and Dave: thanks for the PM too. What a shame!

I'm going to see something on Sunday.

I really don't want to look at Picasso's or the like, I can't stand them.

Well said. They're fucking horrible things

I put down a deposit and I'm picking it up tomorrow. Epic thread approaching, as I'll also be picking up Mr Duke's Nissan Cherry! :D

And no, I'm not telling you what I've bought, until I can show you photos.
