Cracking buys,both of them.:)

I remember testing a few of these, and being horrified on how badly corroded the brake pipe that goes above the tank was, there is a dip in the top of the tank which can collect water, which rots the pipe. worth a check as a few have let go on the road. Otherwise, no issues. One used to come in for a service regularly, a 1 litre one, which had done over 250k.

Still looks in better nick than the one my mate's gf had.

I shudder to imagine what kind of clip that was in then!

Despite not being French she had this idea that town driving, and parking in particular, was a contact sport.

On more than one occasion I was in the car when she faced down some arrogant twunt in a much bigger car intent on getting this inconvenient little woman in the tiny Toyota out their way only to be met with a barrage of abuse, usually incorporating lines like, "See these dents, do you think I give a fuck?"

A very entertaining woman to be driven home from the pub by, but I don't think I'd have been so keen sober! :P

I'll take eight, please.

Also, is someone doing another print run of the "WARNING: this vehicle is parked by Braille" stickers?

The parcel shelf in the red one should be easily fixable with a couple of strips of Meccano and a glassfibre repair kit from Halfords. If you want to make a really tidy repair, going over it with a rattle can of satin black makes it almost* invisible.

For the absolute perfectionist, you can also run a blade over the flock material on the top of the parcel shelf, and then blow the fluff that static's keeping on the blade into some PVA/clear mastic that you've stuffed into the crack in the plastic. Et voila - you are car fixin geniuz! Invisibuls repear.

Hilarious update.

After listening to the other half complain about how heavy her new Yaris is to park, I got sick of telling her to "man up" and decided to check the power steering fluid level it case it was low.

There was no power steering fluid.

Or even a resevoir. Or in fact any power steering parts all.

I seem to have bought one of the few Yaris's that did not come with power steering for a woman whos main requirement was for a car with power steering.

Shes not happy. And I feel foolish.

I had stupidly assumed that they were PAS as standard. To be fair to me AND her, it is very light on the road, and very heavy lock to lock at creeping speeds.

I paralel parked it to see how hard it was. Took me quite a few goes and a lot of grunting to get into a space that she couldnt manage. And Im 6 foot 3 and 22 stone. Fair enough pet, it IS a bit heavy.

Think she might want rid now.

FFS.

Surely if she's been fine with it so far, its OK.

If not, just go out and fiddle around under the bonnet for an hour, then come back in the house and tell her you've fitted PAS.

Really surprised by that, I would have presumed it was PAS as well

Like I say, its fine on the road. But shes been looking for drive-in parking spaces as parallel parking has been too much for her. There was no option but to parallel it tonight and she couldnt manage it. Which is a shame because she likes the car.

I'm gonna try 45 psi in the fronts. See if that makes any difference.

Indeed. An option on the S's, and standard on everything above apparently. And this is an S.

The windy windows, lack of a passenger airbag, lack of spoiler, alloys, EW, CL should have been indicators as to the possible lack of PAS really. But I just "presumed" too.

Never presume!

That car would probably cost around $5000 here in California!

With 200,000 miles and sun bleached paint

Hmmmmm. Maybe send a few containers of Yaris's's over, and then re-fill them full of ye olde mahoosive V8's for the return journey?

If that was an option I'd seriously consider it - unfortunately the US of A has some very strict import regulations - basically if it's under 25 years of age it's probably not even worth considering.

I wanted to import a Nissan Skyline 12 years ago and it would have cost me $25,000 just to get the car on the road!!!

My Mum had one out there, bought it new in 2005 and ran it for five years. I think it needed a tail light bulb in 2008. They're called the Toyota Echo out there, and they're built in Canada from locally pressed panels and imported running gear. There's a hideous booted version but thankfully, Ma Bluejeans chose the regular three door Auto.

Cracking little car, the first choice for a reliable city motah. However, Toyota soon spoilt it with the second and third versions. The current one is almost Mark 1 Focus sized.

Correct. But, I think it's still a good idea.

That's odd- our Starlet, which is also povvo spec "S" model has no equipment at all, apart from a Bidet does have PAS. Never come across a Yaris without. Keep going like this and you may well unearth a Lonsdale!

That tickled me. I must have it pointing the wrong way.

Well I put 50psi in the fronts, and all seems markedly improved.

Shes not convinced, but is soldiering on and complaining less.

Result!
