Hyundai i40... (not shite but will be!)

A neighbour has had a new one of these i40 estates on his drive for a couple of weeks and I have to admit thinking that it looks rather nice:

It looks very 'Ford' in styling, especially at the front:

The petrol saloons definitely will be, in about twelve years from now...

You're not the only one. I remember seeing one just after they were launched and thinking "my god, the new Mondeo is sexy". I'd have one, great looking cars. The new Kia Optima is quite a looker too.

Looks better than the Mondeo I think. I’d rather have that than a Ford...

They do look nice, in fact I like a few of the new Hyundai range. The back of the one pictured looks sort of BMW/Audi/Insignia and quite smart and modern. I reckon Hyundai will rapidly become the new Skoda, shake off the mingebag image and hold half decent residuals.

Just looks like another modern car to me.

I sort of half considered one before we bought Mrs_Ls Mazda as it is a decent enough looking thing. Trouble is whilst it looks alright and will probably be mega reliable it just does nothing for me and is a bit too much of an appliance rather than something I could get any enthusiasm for.

I sort of regret choosing a Ford over a Hyundai or Kia - I ummed and aaahed and decided that the "foreigners" were still a bit of an unknown quantity.

Thinking over it again, the impending Focus DPF/DMF nightmares, and the rather daft 12.5k service intervals should have swayed me the other way.

They look good, there's plenty of equipment and the secondhand prices are rather attractive. Perhaps I'm a badge snob and I don't belong here.

I would say a newer Ford officially sold in Europe is a foreigner to you like it is to me, except you are german.

Or spanish, or belgian, although Genk has just got the chop like Southampton .Protesting workers burnt out a S Max at the entrance, although it had no wheels so was just a shell I think.

This may well be the image in the UK but elsewhere, I'm sure Skoda could only dream of being as popular as Hyundai or KIA have already become?

I've had a few of the new Hyundai Sonata cars over here in the USA and they are not quite as substantial as the sheetmetal suggests but overall, a pleasant enough car to drive:

The sister car from KIA - the Optima felts even less substantial to me and was a bit disappointing to be honest - still make good everyday transport of course but didn't live up to the sheetmetal looks for me.

I still quite fancy one of these for UK duties:
