Barrow Wheels: Some You May Know...

I've had a chat with one of the neighbours about the Transit above.  Seems he knows about it and it's there for a genuine reason, so that's OK.

Couple of sad cases...

There's less of that scooter every time I walk past...

It breaks my heart... in 2002 I sold a complete, running, legal 1987 Mayfair, lightly modified, for £500.  These days the remains above are probably worth that!  E721 LSG, if it even still exists, is probably worth an extra zero now.

It looks to have been carved up for parts or possibly a stalled restoration project? There’s even what look like new parts inside it.
I wonder what the story is with it?

Trailer has a hitch lock on too so presumably someone still wants it.

Been walking another dog today...

Isn't it though!  I couldn't believe that, it was just there on the pavement, with the passenger's window either open or missing, and no interior.  I wonder what the story is there...

It’s weird how a car like that can be treated like that and just left. Not exactly cheap or undesirable anymore, maybe 30 years ago you could understand it but not now.

I might have to drop round one afternoon in the Cresta, see who comes outside...

What’s the area like? You might end up getting done over instead😄

Relatively safe, I think; probably a step up from my neighbourhood!  Except that here you don't find 50 year old cars just dumped on the pavement!

Not looked out the window lately? 😀

It's not on the pavement.  It's legally parked in the Disabled bay that I paid good money to have painted on the road outside my house.

That Cortina belongs to a mutual friend of mine and Dave’s called Rob, bought it recently from auction.

Out and about again...

100_2889.JPG.4a0eb673222758d730abb015b10d8b43.JPG

Volvo was just parked outside where I was going.  These things were huge; I know, I've had both 740 and 940 estates.  But the bloated SUVs everyone has now made it look positively petite.

Today I had occasion to do some walking around an industrial bit of Barrow.

Ah yes, our old friend who likes to park lovely old cars in unattended public places.  Sorry m8, I can't approve, however much my cars have to live on-street.

These two are at the other end of what I must assume is his collection truck (you can see it in the Rover pic).  Both Wolseley, both manual.  The Rover has a proper gearbox.  And further on, down a cul-de-sac...

Poor ole Metro :(

There's quite a bit missing from this, but I think it's an early 60s Dodge panel van.  It may yet turn out to be something lovely (we can hope).

I know I keep harping on about the regular meets at the Lakeland Motor Museum, but just look at the cars that turned out on a horrible wet Saturday two weeks ago!

Obviously!  Slightly less so...

Actually I've just realised... two weeks ago we were still in November!  So this was only one week ago.  How time flies...

I used to be fascinated by the couple of Nash Metropolitans I saw when growing up in Herne Bay, especially the spare wheel on the back!

I see someone else plays the Bongos... ;)

And this little Triumph was where I usually expect to find a classic or two stored on-street.

It's possibly Canadian assembled? Or even a CKD from Ireland or Australia. One of the most influential car designs ever - it's the revolutionary 'shoe-box' Ford - the precursor of all the three-box cars. Big sellers - 1M+ approx in the first couple of years.

Designed by Holden Koto for Ford - he went on to work for Loewy and did a lot of prototype stuff for Austin.

How funny... that pair of Bongos above has just appeared on FB as a package.  Neither has MoT; both run, but one needs a turbo and welding, the other has no interior.  Want to have a guess at the price, of two almost-30-year-old vans that were never sold new on the UK market and aren't legal to drive away?

I would have got it wrong as well.  £1750.  Decimal point after the zero.  Errr.....................

If the price was £1.75 I’d still think it was steep!😄

I've just driven past this morning, and there was only one van in the car park.  I guess he's using one of them then...
