Citroen C5 'issues'

Hi all, 1st time poster so please be gentle.

Drove back from Bodmin to Norwich today in my £500 special ('52' Citroen C5 2.0 SX Auto) and all was fine until I got 80 or so mile from home when the EM ans service lights flashed on and the error message Anti-pollution fault appeared in the display, the car is a petrol BTW.

Stopped at the services at Bishops Stortford for a T&P break, re-started car and all was fine. Drove 5 miles and it happened again. Car runs as before with no loos of power or increase in MPG.

Could it be sh**ty Morrisons petrol or something more sinister, the weather was biblical rain at the time of 1st occurance so could be water related? Normal temp was showing on both oil and water guages and as stated no missing or farting at all.

Has anybody had similar?

Howdy. Can't advise because my cars are all to rubbish to have fancy stuff like that, but if you're buying cheap, unreliable shite on Ebay and driving it serious mileage to get home, you'll clearly fit in well around here. Welcome.

:) Hello and welcome.

You're unlikely to get to the bottom of your problem without getting the fault codes read with a diagnostic scanner.

Ok, firstly welcome along, and that is some choice tat buying.

I'll agree with the above, get us some fault codes and we'll work along from there. Being that it is petrol, there are several avenues to look down, but before we speculate, it'd be good to have that info.

Hi guys, thanks for replies, knew I had to get codes read, but thought I might try and save a few bob 1st and see if any learned member here had any ideas.

I'm a serial buyer of Fleabay shite, the most recent (barring C5) being a £300 Mazda 323F, I would give you all a list to laugh at what I've bought but I'd be to ashamed

:P No need to be ashamed, most of us here drive or own total utter crap! [me included]. :D

Welcome along. A list of shite the length of the Great Wall of China's nothing to be ashamed of! Get it posted, man.

Nothing to be ashamed of, I rolled around in a free beige (well Antique Gold) Allegro with a crumbly dash and expanding foam repairs for a good few months (and still have the car). Pics always help though

Welcome.

If I had a fault reader and I was in Norwich, I'd invite you around and plug you in.

But I don't and I'm not. Sorry!

Anyhoo, welcome to AS, and good luck with the Shitroen!

Hey!

A really basic obd code reader is £18.99 on ebay. Buy one, get the fault code, google.

Bish bash and also bosh.

I had the Anti Pollution Fault message appear on my 406. To cure the fault I leant the car for a few days to Station on this very parish and the fault went away.

Unfortunately "anti-pollution system faulty" is the generic fault code message from the engine management system. It could be literally anything. If it still drives fine then be thankful and throw two fingers up at the display every time it happens.

My money is on the EGR valve, they stick in the open position and log a fault code (chime & legend every time you start up).

15 minutes to remove, clean and re-fit, fault code will clear itself after 6 re-starts of the engine with no fault present.

Hi, and welcome, from another Norwich-based, former 323f owning (although mine was a BG), C5 driver! :D

I don't know what's wrong with your C5 though, sorry....I'm pretty sure I know what's wrong with mine though!

Update on the C5, had the codes read, they were as follows.

Engine coolant blower malfunction (works fine)

Coil pack A fault

Coil pack B fault (car runs fine with no loss of power)

Transmission communication fault (whatever that means).

Codes cleared and no re-occurrence, I await with baited breath.

Yeah ideally if you get them re-read, get the P number codes too ;)
